I think george karl would easily take this job

You do have a point. But both those coaches were fired, and we do have an intriguing roster, with an emerging superstar. Would they really totally snub their noses at us just because they didn't want to wait for the offseason? I just have to think that AD will be a very enticing draw for a coach.
I agree with almost everything you have said, except I did like the Holiday trade. The Evans signing kind of made me go WTF considering the glaring holes at C and SF. However I'm pretty confident that Dell could sign Lebron and Monty would still screw the pooch.
You are missing another category - people who realize there is no better alternative for the rest of this season and are willing to let him play out the last 74 games to see if he can figure it out. If not, fire him and do a full coaching search while you have the attention of coaches at every level. You can't talk to Shaka Smart or Bill Self right now, for instance. Why just hire somebody else just to hire someone? The summer is when you will have the best chance to do an exhaustive search and find the right guy if Monty doesnt get it together
How enticing was Durant?
Small market, roster configuration is questionable at best with no real flexibility, and you have to try and put the bicycle together as you ride it. And, oh yeah, you probably will be one of the lower 15 coaches salary wise.
Not that enticing to veteran coaches IMO.
Fair point. Though if just one of them thought AD could be top 5, I think they'd take a chance. Perhaps a season with no expectations and so many built in excuses would sell them. Maybe if they thought our problems were easily fixed. *shrug* But I doubt it, unfortunately. Just the thought of another whole season with Monty is enough to depress a man.
idk if it would help us this year but at the same time idk if it could really hurt us...i never thought monty would get fired midseason, i always thought it was a possibility at the end of the season...and it is starting to look like that if we continue to play like this
i don't think monty is a good coach and obviously he is not completely to blame...but if you think he is a bad coach and after 4 years and 3 straight bad seasons, teams usually make the change and try to upgrade at the end of the season...now do we know whomever we replace him with at the end of the season would be an improvement? of course not...but just like we need to upgrade at certain personnel areas you should try to upgrade at coach too...it would be silly to stick with a coach who you think is a bad coach
now i am starting to think he should be fired during the season if we continue to get outhustled and play with no energy...if it comes to the point where the writing is on the wall for monty, then there is no point in sticking with him for the season...and maybe a change would bring about energy, who knows..wouldn't make things any worse
the lack of energy is what is most frustrating with the team..i remember in byron's last year, i was so frustrated at the team's lack of energy/hustle that i thought it was time for byron to go..but even i was surprised of his early firing...i really am starting to get that same feeling this year...i honestly would not be surprised if monty gets fired on thursday if we lose tomorrow night in a similar fashion as tonight's game
monty seems like a nice guy..but nice guys usually make for good lead assistants...he doesn't seem to be a guy that players fear..and i think this team needs some of that
Monty is here for the year. If not, you are looking at Randy Ayers or Bryan Gates.
I just want people to realize that as they scream for Monty to get fired. Welcome to the real world.
I don't think we make the playoffs ..my fear is we will finish some between 7-10 and lose our pick . This draft is deep . We may need to go in tank mode if this doesn't get turned around by game 25
1) Try to interview Karl, Hollins, Jeff Van Gundy, SVG, Jerry Sloan, and whoever else.
2) To not blow 16 point leads at half time. To get the most out of the players on your team like the Lakers and Suns and Celtics are doing. To be able to score more than 20 points in a quarter and 40 points at halftime. To have good and flexible rotations, play your best players the most minutes, call timeouts, yell at players or bench players if need be. To motivate players and demand the best out of them. To have an offense that is faster, more ball movement, generates more 3's and easier shots. Just some of these things would be nice.
Mainly I expect the Pelicans to win games when they are favored.
Id rather lose with an crappy interim coach for just the remainder of the season than lose with Monty.
Karl was also absolutely enamored with Davis earlier this season when he was sitting on the round table of the nba preview shows for each team. Calling Davis essentially the next great player in this league and how incredible he is, just a dream player for a coach etc. Just piling it on.
At this point I'd rather take a shot in the dark with an unproven assistant than continue to watch the same issues night in and night out. Look at I believe it was the 03' Nets who fired Byron Scott early to mid-way through the year and promoted Lawrence Frank to interim coach and he ended up getting the team to play really well that year and ended up being hired as their full time HC. I know that scenario isn't likely to happen again and as time has passed Lawrence Frank hasn't become the next Gregg Popavich but it's better than watching Monty look clueless in terrible suits on the sideline (seriously the man can't even dress himself in respectable way and we expect him to be able to manage a group of 25 year olds).
He had a full season and a half off from coaching to recharge prior to that and he got paid well for that time period. Was a top 8 paid coach.
But there are some similarities - Melo was a blossoming star in his second year. Biggest difference, though, is that team had some vets so Karl probably knew they can pick up his system on the fly. Camby, who was 30. Kenyon Martin, Andre Miller, etc.
That's not saying much about Karl because I'm sure there are lots of guys that would love to coach AD. Of course he was enamored with him.
Trust me, I know - I brought it up on several occassions before the season started and way back three weeks ago when the majority of people still loved Monty.
But he also said that he was just completely done after last season. Exhausted beyond belief.
Dont think he would come back this year and put in all the extra effort to fix something on the fly. Next summer, maybe. But honestly, I would prefer to find a long term solution, not a stop gap.
Go all in on Shaka Smart!
True or False
Avery Johnson has a Saints SB ring?
Something to think about?
But why is this a good thing? Avery Johnson has been a running joke on this board for years. People were terrified when we even granted him an interview 3+ years ago for our HC position.
Whats the rush? Why just settle? Again, so many candidates become available in May or June that arent available now. Do it right.
Frankly if we don't start turning it around soon I just want us to tank and try and get a top 5 pick.
Karl can start summer. That's fine.
And I'm ok with a short term fix if its a fix that puts us on the right path. I mean obviously if the perfect long term solution at coach comes available you take it but I could think of a lot worse coaches to have for a couple seasons to build a winning foundation for a team. Karl has a knack for making playoff teams and if he can do that I'll take it. Davis is and will always be the difference between us reaching a finals or not IMO.
Hire Alvin Gentry for the rest of the season, at least the team would be fun to watch. Hopefully Monty wakes up with Pierre the Pelicans head in his bead tomorrow morning.
I guess the FO just has to decide if keeping Monty for the whole season has a negative impact on the franchise even outside of the win/loss column.
One thing we all seem to agree on is that something has to be done about Monty. I'm a Monty supporter and now I seem to be saying this too. Is this normal? Maybe we need to sleep on this?
Anthony Morrow has been playing 20 minutes a game. He is shooting 63% from three. Yet his teammates aren't looking for him.
Unless Monty is saying "Don't give the ball to Morrow" then that is on the players.
If Monty fails to notice that Morrow is being denied open looks while shooting so well, then that's on Monty but no one here knows, and no one here has any power to do anything about it.
Boomshakalaka
It seems you just don't read articles, listen to podcasts, read twitter feeds, etc. No wonder the site seems silent.
Or, maybe data, logic, and the like somehow don't count.
Which is it?
I remember talking coaching issues PRIOR to the season and wrote about coaching staff changes that were meeded momths ago myself, jist to name two things off the top of my head, so the contemt is there and has been there.
