Today is day one. Of it being legit, at least. Some of us prepared ourselves. Others are starting the Stages of Grief. Panic is a little warranted after the last time we landed a bunch of people who didn't want to be here.
There is no core. I hope we trade Jrue as well. I'd be happy to sign Elfrid for a reasonable deal and Randall if he wanted to stay (doubtful).
Busta is right. Say we get the most talked about trade package from LA.
Jrue
Payton
Ball
Jackson
Ingram
Miller
Kuzma
Niko
Randle
Diallo
Okafor
Zubac
Maybe a 1st.
That's a freaking nice, young, and deep core. Instantly playoffs. Randle leaves. Trade a few guys for assets. Make a similar AD deal for Tatum or Porzingas and we are still playoffs next season. It's the rebuild talk that's ignorant.
But first, get the new coach and GM. And that probably won't be in motion for another few weeks.
My boy just sent me this trade. Thoughts?

That is not a playoff team in the west.
PG - Ball / Payton / Jrue
SG - Jrue / Jackson / Kuzma
SF - Kuzma / Miller
PF - Ingram / Niko/ Randle
C - Niko / Randle/ Zubac / Okafor
You really think that's much better than what we have now? Ingram sucks. Just flat out, is not a great player; not a great defender, not massively quick, can't shoot for toffee, doesn't have a high BBIQ. Ball can't shoot either, and he also has his malcontent father that gets dragged along. Sure, he's been quiet in LA, recently, but you think Demps is gonna keep him quiet? Or, if we replace Demps, do you want that conflict hanging over next season?
Essentially that trade is Malcontent who can't shoot + Can't play defense but can shoot + Three years deep into disappointment who can't shoot + backup big + maybe a first? For Anthony Davis.
Honestly I think I'd throw up.
.....so why you have Ingram starting over Niko, Okafor, Randle, and Zuboc?
And heck yeah that is better. Deeper, really. Our current starting five do well but there is NO depth. That's how we lose games. That possible lineup is deeper just lacking star power. Easily an 8th seed. We also don't need all of that so you could possibly package people off in hopes of getting another all-star. That roster has a few people with an outside shot at becoming all-stars.
I hope they can just get the best players or picks they can get.
I had him starting because I wasn't formulating gameplans, just slotting names in.
The team you're suggesting is basically last years Lakers + Jrue and Niko.
Ball, Randle, Ingram, Kuzma, Zubac. I dont think I need to explain why I don't think re-running the 2017-18 LA Lakers is a great plan for our future.
Eh. They were soooooo freaking young. They could have stayed just those same players and won a whole lot more games just from experience. So yeah, add that experience, Jrue, Niko, Payton, and Ok and you have an 8th seed. I agree I want more star power coming back.
We DO want better though. We don't need all of those people and we need to somehow net an all-star or two. So the key is going to be packaging those pieces to get a bigger one.
Why aquiese the desires of a fellow Western Conference team? To make them presumably better? Trade him to Orlando for a few role players and be done with it. We aren't going to get 2 1st picks and a sack full of players. We'd be lucky to get a few bad expiring contracts. AD's agent just assured us of that.
How did he? He specified that AD is willing to play out the rest of the season, won't cause a fuss, doesn't have any demands as to which team he goes to, and wanted to do what's best for the team. How does that assure that we'd ''be lucky to get a few bad'' contracts in exchange for a transcendental player?
At the end of the day, if nothing else seems to be showing it's head, we can always look at Boston and say ''Hey, you want AD? Have him. We just need picks, Brown, and the cash required.'' That's worst case scenario, assuming we don't get any good offers and Boston refuses to part with Tatum. Multiple first round picks, a promising young player, and maybe some expirings.
That's just not true at all.
Look at other teams who just gave up good assets for 1 year rentals of other stars, in the hopes that culture will convince them to resign. OKC just did that, giving up Oladipo (who, aside from injury has been a star for Indian) + Sabonis for a 1 year rental of PG13, who had explicitly stated his desire to go to LA (which AD has not done). He ended up staying there, in OKC.
Meanwhile, Spurs got DeMar DeRozan + Jacob Poetl + FRP for Kawhi Leonard, who had also expressly stated his desire to go to LA. The jury is still out on whether he'll head to LA or stay in Toronto, but he doesn't seem to be a malcontent for Toronto right now.
So when you have AD, who is arguably just as good as either of them (and almost certainly better than PG), and who hasn't specified any team aside from vaguely saying he'd like to win, who is younger than both of them, then you have plenty of leverage. Boston won't trade for a one year rental? They will if Kyrie resigns, given that AD and Kyrie are friends and that combination would pretty much guarantee them a finals trip (which AD will resign off the back of).
Yep. We currently have the leverage.
I'd hate to take a trade from the Lakers, much prefer to trade to the East: Knicks, Philly, Boston then probably less Nets, Bulls.
But totally agree, this teams starting 5 is great it's just the next 3/4 players are very inconsistent and don't contribute but I also think it rallies back to the coach and the terrible defense.
We're in such a great spot to grab 2/3 contributing players and a pick or 2 (Cheap contracts) and there won't be a need to rebuild and you keep a young quality core with Jrue as your leader.
Randle, Hill, Diallo, Johnson, Fraizer, Clark are the ones we want gone this off-season
That’s what I want from LA I like that get those five guys Ball Ingram Hart Kuzma and Zubac and a first rounder we’ll be in good shape . Everyone of those guys are showing improvement and are on the upswing then we will have a solid team with depth . I also like the Tatum Brown and picks scenario but I think it’s going to come down to AD saying he wants to go to LA I think this is what this is all about so I think that will be the route we need to take .
