I'm all for taking a chance. If he doesn't work out then we'll cut him loose. It's low-risk, potentially medium reward.
High IQ shooters should be our main free agents targets. I'm gonna say this all offseason so you guys will get it. Is James Young a high IQ shooter? If we are pressed for cash, I don't see why wasting a team spot and money on this guy makes sense. I would literally prefer to take a flyer on a player overseas if we are doing charity cases or redemption stories.
Dell does this every year, hoping some scrub would pan put, and we all end up {edited - veiled language} about how our roster is filled with D Leaguers or trash players. So why are we doing this cycle again?
Between signing this guy and drafting Frank Jackson, it tells me that we really want a young, athletic two-guard that can shoot. I have more confidence in the rookie, but it never hurts to have a backup plan. I see the vision and role for these players in our new offense. Hopefully we hit on one of them!
Foxx, I think you're really overreacting to a guy that might not even make it past TC. I'm pretty sure he is gonna be signed for the minimum, so how does this hurt us in anyway? You could've said the exact same things about Crawford last year when we signed him, but look at how that turned out. Sometimes these minimum contract, reclamation types work out.
Because if he doesn't work out you can cut him and it won't waste a spot or money. We will have minimum contracts that count against us whether he is here or not. By signing him it allows us to get him into our program and see how he does through training camp. Then we can still cut him if he doesn't perform and just sign another minimum contract.
Exactly who are we going to find for a minimum contract that isn't a D-leaguer or unsigned rookie? That's the entire idea behind minimum contracts. You take a low risk flyer on a player you think might do something. I it doesn't pan out, no biggie. CP3 wasn't going to be signing to a minimum deal and take Young's roster spot anyway.
Now let's not get it twisted. You want guys who make smart plays and know not just what they have to do on a given play, but what makes the Warriors, Spurs, and Cavs so tough to beat is they are both smart AND talented.
You gotta have talent too.
This kid can shoot, he has potential, lets hope contract is decent for the time he will play.
super low risk, still young. don't hate it. Better this than signing veterans from the d-league like Nate Robinson or Reggie Williams. What i don't get is how this could come out before Free Agency starts. The pels official twitter account liked a tweet about it too FWIW.
Can he play Summer league with us?
LMAO he isn't even 22 yet!
people saying he sucks n stuff
How ridonkulous.
If he had been a senior folks would wanna give him time
I don't think anyone honestly expects much from him...hell is this even a vetted source?
Either way, no harm in letting him get a shot.
Yes, but there's more similarities with Henry to be fair. He as a highly touted recruit for a big university. He plays SG/SF, has close measurements (even though I think Henry had more length), has an ok season for a freshman before going in the draft, projected as a shooter but did not live up to that in the NBA in his first years, good athleticism but yet have to use it to defend well.
Regarding the tampering issue, I didn't see the tweet from the pels and it no longer exists on their feed. So I guess their community manager had same reminder of the rules.
