You honestly think there is a fair comparison to be made between Collison and Holiday?
We overpaid for Holiday. There is no debate. BUT, had we not signed Holiday then we would barely even be able to afford a $10 million deal for Collison and would have used up *almost* all of our available cap room. I am quite certain that all of this board would have been pissed if Darren Collison was the only addition we made this offseason.
And Holiday is a freaking good point guard. He is one of the best two way points in the league. And he is only 27. When this 5 year deal is up he will only be one year older than George Hill and Kyle Lowry are RIGHT NOW.
We overpaid for him but we honestly had no alternative.
Me 5.
At least there are not that much freeagents left I am keen on.
This offseason has to be saved via trade and Bledsoe is one of the best targets I can realistically see us having a shot at. Don't want to give up a lot for Lin or Smart (don't see the fit there anyway).
I said it once, and I'll say it again. If we get Bledsoe, and just make the playoffs, then it's pretty much a guarantee that Boogie will sign an extension. That loyalty and Kentucky blood/brotherhood runs strong.
I don't think it was a coincidence that the report about Boogie trying to recruit free agents to come here came out around the same time it was reported that John Wall wouldn't sign his extension either.
Jrue balls out this year, Wall pulls a CP3/George, and I wouldn't be surprised if we make the trade with assets. Other teams probably wouldn't pull the trigger on Wall because they'll be trading for a 1 year rental in Wall. We'd be doing the same thing but we'll pull the trigger on Wall just because we have the highest percentage in him signing an extension with us because he'll be playing with AD, Boogie, and Bledsoe.
I wouldn't even be surprised if by that time Coach Cal will be coaching the Pelicans. Even if Wall were to be traded to a different team, you don't think he'll come here after that season with Coach Cal, Boogie, and Bledsoe on the team??
THE KEY HERE IS...TRADE FOR BLEDSOE
Yeah I wouldn't have gone that high for Collison. I was hoping for 6 mil a year max. I would be happy with Lawson off the bench than. Also, I'm so Bledsoe or bust. Although, I'm warming up to Smart.
This is another prediction I have is Wall coming here to team up with AD and Boogie. Sending the Wizards 2 1st rounders, Diallo, and a possible 3rd team willing to take Jrue giving us some additional assets to send their way. I think as long as we make the playoffs Boogie is going to sign here. Once that happens the recruiting with AD/Boogie is going to heat up big time. Wall would be the perfect PG for this team. IMO the biggest mistake the Wizards made was not doing whatever it took to get Boogie from the Kings. Wall/Beal/Porter/Cousins would have been a serious group to deal with.
...And also, like I said, if another team were to trade for Wall, the go after Coach Cal. Coach Cal, Boogie, Bledsoe...Are you kidding me? No way Wall doesn't come here after his 1 year season with that new team.
Hell, that would be even better. You could trade Jrue for a superstar 3 and sign veterans chasing a ring that offseason.
Future's ours.
John Wall in New Orleans? Well that changes everything. If Demps can pull that off too we might as well fire Gentry and get ready to finally enjoy watching a real contender at the Smoothie King.
I don't see Wall leaving as long as Scotty Brooks is Head Coach.
The only way is via trade. Anything is possible.
Maybe Demps is working on that now
Jrue can't be traded for at least 30 days right? Am i wrong on that?

Yea I was gonna say Cal as well who I wish we had now. Only problem with Cal would mean we had another bad season with management getting fired. But that also might not be such a bad thing if and a big if we went and snatched Cal up right away guaranteeing us Boogie resigning and being in the driver seat to land John Wall. Even without Cal I think we have a great shot and resigning Boogie and potentially landing Wall but that all depends on our success. Wall has to be salivating at the chance to play with the 2 best bigs in the league that happened to be his boys from Kentucky. Find a couple of 3 and D wings and I would put that team up against anybody.
And technically I can get a six pack. Doesn't mean it's going to happen.
Not only would the Pelicans have to go back on their agreement, which practically never happens, but as PELICANSFAN noted earlier, they would have to modify the agreement to take out the player option for the fifth year. On top of all that, Jrue would have to agree to the trade to the new team under the renegotiated terms.
Jrue is going to sign with us. He's not going anywhere. Literally.
So could we get Wall without trading Jrue? If the answer is no then lets please be realistic with the speculation.

Look, I answered the question. That's all. I didn't say it was going to happen. I said it could & it is legal. DEANDRE jORDAN ! And since you want to be so pedantic ! Actually, NOT Technically, but as you say LIterally they can still trade Jrue. Jrue would've had to approve any sign & trade, even before the verbal agreement, so that point is moot.
didn't Wall just re-sign with the Wiz?
isn't he under that Dec. 15 rule too?
I would like to just shed Asik and Ajinca's contract while picking up some quality bench players. Trade a couple of firsts for more cap space and a second or two.
Sign Tyreke, Nick Young, Tarik Black, and Anthony Tolliver

The point isn't moot. I'm pointing out that in order to execute a sign and trade, Jrue would have to approve the targeted team. Whether it happens before or after the agreement is irrelevant. The fact remains it's an additional barrier, pre-agreement or post, thus making it further unlikely of happening.
That isn't even getting into whether the other team would be thrilled with absorbing Jrue's contract, which in most people's eyes, is a significant overpay. Just because the Pels were able to stomach it, doesn't mean other teams would.
I will say i find it odd that no other twitter traffic on a potential trade. One would think other teams would want it out there as to get better offers.

The Pacers & Monta Ellis, per league sources, are discussing a possible buyout situation. Such a deal could be done later this month.

I am going to paint a picture for y'all: This is how we can get John Wall and start winning championships.
I never said that we must trade Jrue right now, this 17-18 season.
These are the steps:
1. I said: All we NEED to do this off-season is trade for Bledsoe.
2. Once that happens, then all we need to do is next is to make the play-offs. After making the play-offs, then that will 100% ensure that Boogie will sign an extension with us next summer. Why? Not only are we showing him that we are trying to win, but since he's also loyal, and the Kentucky blood/family/brotherhood runs stronger than one would think, then he will want to stay here and play with AD and Bledsoe (college teammate and best friend...The groomsmen at Bledsoe's wedding along with Wall).
3. Now, it wasn't a coincidence that John Wall didn't sign his extension when the Wizards had offered him a new contract earlier this summer...It wasn't a coincidence that Wall said, "I want to wait and see" around the SAME TIME that it was reported that Boogie is recruiting free agents to come play for the Pelicans.
4A. Wall has two years left on his contract. If he doesn't sign his extension, then he becomes a CP3/Paul George next summer with one year left on his contract. THIS will be the time to trade Jrue and assets for John Wall. Less teams will want to trade for Wall just because they'll be trading for an one-year rental. We will also be trading for an one-year rental in Wall. However, there's no way Pelicans wouldn't pull the trigger on Wall even for an one-year rental because WE KNOW with confidence that we will have the highest chance to sign him to an extension when his contract expires and becomes an UFA. Because guess what? He's not going to leave us with AD/Boogie/Bledsoe on the team. Remember that Kentucky blood and best friends and old college teammates thing I was talking about earlier?
4B. Now, if ANOTHER team beat us to the punch and trade for Wall as an one-year rental, then what do we do? Good. You go after Coach Cal that off-season. So, now you got Coach Cal, Boogie, Bledsoe, and AD? Two of Wall's old college teammates and his old college coach? Wall will definitely leave the team that traded for him and come play for the Pelicans. This might even be better because now you can trade Jrue for an allstar/superstar SF because of knowing that Wall is coming here.
5. After that, you go after veterans who are chasing championships and will play for the minimum.
We will then have a roster of: Wall, Bledsoe, AD, Boogie, superstar/all-star SF and maybe Coach Cal (If another team traded for Wall as an one-year rental), and veterans.
6. Championships
Step 1? Go trade for Bledsoe.
I'm all for that but as someone pointed out the fifth year is a player option for Jrue so he would have to agree. Not many people beating the door down to play in Phoenix or Washington. Just my opinion that all of the trouble to go through for a trade makes no sense when they could have just done a sign and trade. It's obvious that the player option shows the Pels FO is all in on Jrue. Could be wrong and hopefully i am.

Can we have another thread with all these things instead of the thread that tracks what's going on?

I will out $ on it that either Wall or Westbrook will be a future Pelican. I have been consistent with telling people it's going to take time for us to put something together and we need patience. We aren't the Lakers who can change their fortune pulling in 3 players in 1 off season. A team like the Pelicans is going to take time to build and although Dell has had his bad moments he has had some very good ones as well. Landing Boogie was a big piece to what we want to build and the way we are going to have to do it. It's simply going to take time while some believe if it didn't happen last night we are doomed!! 25 teams in the NBA wish they were in the same position as we are in right now. We are 1 star away from being a dominant team that all of the super teams will have trouble matching up with. This isn't going to happen today or in the next month but over the next 2 years we can have something special. It takes patience and looking at the bigger picture. We have a serious chance to build something special over the following 2 off seasons. Yes it sucks to wait but it will be well worth it if some things fall in place our way. Like I said 25+ teams would kill to be in our position. When you look at the relationships our 2 super stars have with 2 other superstars in Westbrook/Wall then it becomes very possible we can land one of them as they will both be FAs in the next 2 FA periods. Future is very bright. Worst case scenario nothing pans out and we are able to move AD for a kings ransom. Good thing is IMO that won't be happening.
