Careful, bro, you must not watch games

What happened? Did Monty do anything particularly awful?
I've missed the puns :(
Guess I'll make the thread official

The offensive success I believe is due to the talent of the players we have and not any systematic or strategic offense that Monty has implemented. How often do you see this team or any in the past come out of a timeout and run a play Monty draws up successfully? I can assure you it is very few. How is it that quality head coaches can win games with his second and third string options and we struggle even when we are mostly at full strength? I watch Pop pull his top three guys just to give them rest and he still finds ways to win against quality teams. I don't think Monty retained much from working under Pop because he is a master of matching up players he has against opponents and finding the right mix of rotations to counter what the other team is having success at and taking that away from them. Monty is supposed to be a defensive minded coach but how many times do we have to watch his guys overcommit and double the ball handler while leaving a wide open 3pt shooter sitting alone behind the line, I can tell you it is more than I care to count. And this is not something we are just seeing this year it has been a trademark of every Monty coached team since he has been here. Sorry for my rant but I have just had enough and unfortunately it appears it is only going to continue to get worse. I have heard from more than a few sources now that AD's parents have seen enough of Monty and I can only imagine AD will be out of here after his rookie contract because it appears with the new contract dumb dumb just started he will be here for the same amount of time as AD.
I know it is hard to imagine that without our star ad. Our starting pg Jrue. best shooter Ryan. And pretty good big off bench Jason that we weren't good tonight.
I don't like Monty. But tonight isn't the reason. What did u expect ?

Monty is a great coach. We had 4starters and 3 all stars out today. This team healthy by now would have been a 3 seed. Monty has the potential to be the next great coach, and im sure AD and they guys love him. His play calling skills may be questionable, but he will learn throughout time Benson and company knows that. So what if we never win the championship or AD leaves us, we will always have Monty because he is a great guy, never changes his ways in pressured moments, and he has a good heart. That makes him a great coach. He is the true face of the franchise
You guys on this board need to show this man some damn respect, and be proud of what he will bring us in the future.
So tell all of us what system Monty runs on offense or some resemblance of it? Maybe the triangle system that Phil Jackson used for all his successful seasons or maybe a hybrid version of a Princeton system? Tell us which resemblance do you see of any type of offense that is run in the NBA or college that Monty is implementing here? All I see is the same few formations depending on who is in the game and who handles the ball. Nothing strategic or innovative in what we are seeing here, it is up to the athletic ability of the players to carry out what he is doing to be successful.
My favourite part of Monty's defensive system is when Davis way over commits at the top of the key leaving a gaping hole in the middle and everyone else scrambling madly to cover open shooters.
So they're running around aimlessly and relying on their athleticism to score in the top 10 (when healthy) but on defense we're bottom 10 and the athleticism doesn't matter. Dude you've had it out for monty for 2-3 seasons now; you're so biased it's not even worth arguing over.
I have had it for a head coach of our NBA team who we got by prior ownership that was looking at his budget instead of what was best for the team. Unfortunately you have limited basketball IQ and a internet connection. If you want to try making me sound stupid as your condescending post do then back your comments up with some substance. So please tell all of us what type of offensive system do you see that Monty has implemented here? Besides a few set plays and a poor excuse for a high pick and roll what is it besides the talent on this team that we have a really good offense? Where are the problems on defense and why does it appear to be the same breakdowns every game? Please do tell.
Can we just sticky this thread? Man you guys are consistent.
At what point do you just say he can't do it? Even if the work during the week pays off, it's not translating completely during the game, not to mention the biggest problem- in game adjustments. He's not the long-term answer. He probably never will be in my opinion. Maybe he will, but he will be forced to rethink things and it won't happen this go-around. Time to make a change. Take a chance on an up-and-comer.
Name calling ; cute. I think if you really wanted to debate a topic you wouldn't jump out and say I have a limited basketball iq with an internet connection. Prove your wrong ? Idgaf what you think about me. You can take your one sided views and live with them; I'm completely fine w that.
I'm not even a Monty apologist but when I see people looking at something from a biased perspective I say something. I don't think your logic holds up. I don't think it has anything to do with your iq; I just think you're a passionate fan who may be acting emotional. If you don't think Monty is running an offensive set, I think you're not being fair. If you have such an issue with people disagreeing with you I'm sorry but you'll have to deal with that.
I'd be more than happy with a coaching upgrade but I think forums perpetuate hyperbole.
few questions:
- why did we get tyreke? he was getting more playing time when everybody was healthy than now when we have so many injuries. if roberts got injured then rivers would start and tyreke would still get around 20minutes? it looks like monty wrote in his book that tyreke runs the second unit so if then rivers got injured he would have to bring pierre in to start i guess
- why withey was not getting more playing time when lot of us saw the upside. now the announcers see the upside but in the last but one game he did not play a minute
- what is with monty and the young players? he apparently doesn't want to develop them during the games which at least to me is important. he keeps playing roberts over rivers and steamer over withey. when getting his chance withey has been very good imo. his defense on love was very good, he can block shots, has good timing and i trust him when he has the ball in his hands much much more than steamer
Whithey should have been starting from Day 1 or shortly there after, his defense shows that he is pretty far along for a rookie.
These are tough questions. I'll try to give you what i think on them.
We got Tyreke to be a supersub and to (IMHO) close games with the starting unit. I think they're intent on seeing him come off the bench and grow into a perrenial 6th Man of the year contestant. who starts doesn't matter imo, who finishes does. Now his recent lack of PT? I can't make much sense of it besides trying to protect his ankle.
Whithey is doing well in limited minutes. A lot can factor into it, his conditioning, his strength, his lack of knowledge of the system. I'd like to see him get more run, but in the NBA you've got to earn it. I kind of like that about Monty.
This to me isn't fair. Is he not helping develop Anthony Davis? Have we not see strides in Austin Rivers? Just because guiys aren'ty getting run doesn't mean he's not devloping them. I honestly believe he tries to break guys that he doesn't deem ready slow into the league. even Davis got limited minutes last season to try to keep him from breaking down (althought he still got injured). Honestly, I dislike Steamer's game with a passion but I understand playing him.
So we are a team in development? I thought that was what the NBDL was for? At least Portland and Phoenix got the picture. 2 more years of Monty see how many people you get in that arena.
I've seen a number of people say that and I think there will be a number of people drop their season tickets, unfortunately. I'm kind of on the fence with Monty. Do I think he's so bad that he has to go, or we won't ever have any sort of success with him? I don't think that, I think he's still a guy that can coach a team to the playoffs. But that is where it stops. I don't think he's a guy that can coach you to the Finals, too many good coaches to take advantage of him.
I've already had people tell me they are not going back till Monty is out.
I agree with this as well. Sometimes u just need a fresh start to jump start things again. Bring some new energy in the building. Same for Monty too. I think he will be a successful hc in the league in the future. I think the f.o. Is trying to see if they can be that team he does it with.
You know how to fix that? Monty starts next season 20-10, and no one will care or even remember why they hated Monty. I don't put much weight in the people that threaten to drop season tickets because of the coach. It's just a emotional respone to a disappointing season where every player has missed time with injury.
20-10 next season? Not the way he is coaching now. Like the confidence though. Didn't we say this last year and the year before that? How many chances will you give this man? It is a win now league. Just ask Portland and Phoenix(No Bledsoe either). People are tired of spending thousands of dollars to get told excuses and learning season.
Get well soon Tom Benson
A few reasons, and none have to do with recent "success." I'm not saying 20-10 is what's going to happen. Just that people would shut up and forget if it did. People threatening to leave the franchise are just looking for an emotional response to an emotional action.
1. This team, with all the injuries went 14-16 in first 30 games.
2. With Ryan Anderson in the lineup, we are 12-10.
3. With AD, Ryan, Holiday, Gordon, and Tyreke active, we are 7-5
4. With at least 4 of AD, Ryan, Holiday, Gordon or Tyreke, we are 12-8.
I don't think this team is dead in the water when healthy. It's too bad this franchise will forever be cursed with the injury bug.
Brad Stevens in Boston looks like he has a better future as a coach. Honestly I am tired of the low expectations or NO expectations. Injuries are apart of the game and he and Demps built this current roster. Even with injuries as an excuse Monty Williams gets out coached night in and night out. With Anthony Davis on this roster we MUST get into contention, he is a GREAT BIG MAN and almost all GREAT BIG's win championships in the NBA... Hell the Bucks even got 1 with Kareem before he became a Laker. WE HAVE NO EXCUSES... NONE... AD23 is too Good. The time is NOW.
Between the ticket offices crap service, and the crap product on the court I pulled my season tickets. I'll watch from home and not drink R/C Cola.
And I too question why Withey hasn't gotten more playing time. Did we not realize we were getting a defensive player when we traded for him?
We not taking about Davis, We talking about coaching. It is a win now league. You think people actually spent money to watch this kind of coaching and another 22-48 season? Oh but it will be okay in next season. We had injuries. Really? At least Phoenix organization does not use these lame excuses.
You are right about one thing. This will be forgotten when Monty is a asked to step down. I understand he is a good nice person but you know maybe a couple more years as an assistant will help him out on his weakness. Nature of the business. Monty has had 4 years . Most NBA coaches don't even get that much time if they don't produce within 4 years.
Anthony Davis dad no fan of Monty either.
