Got it. That makes sense. I wouldn't/obviously didn't get it until it was explained to me so I'm even less for it than I was before. Kinda like when I heard Mrs. Benson say she liked the name "Cardinals." My first thought was the bird (a la St Louis baseball, Arizona Football...) and not the red-robed men.
People still talk about this? ;)
Just answering, not advocating.
Krewe, Brass, and Brand-that-shall-not-be-named fan here.
Subject?
Its all about the Dukes.
I just came up with this on Photoshop. If we decide not to go with the Krewe of New Orleans, I think it should be this!

Lazy argument. 49'ers means? 76'ers? Celtics has what to do with Boston without living there or having a sense of history? I know what they mean. They don't scream anything.
Lakers. Thunder. SuperSonics. Orlando. All decent reasons IF you have knowledge.
Explaining it to someone doesn't mean you HAVE to explain it.
Do you know the real Saints story? It's from the song. That's it. Nothing else. That screams NOLA why? ONE of the people who adopted it was from here, the forsook the city because he couldn't get a decent hotel because of his genes.
Screams nola why?
Zephyr screams nola why? You ride the ride?
Get over it.
What's a Celtic or a Clipper for that matter?
I mean Krewe of New Orleans, New Orleans Crescents, New Orleans VooDoo, and New Orleans Buccaneers/Corsairs/Pirates have easily explained ties or obvious ones, but they haven't caught on like talking about.
49ers was from the gold rush of 1849.
Celtics - all the Irish in Boston.
Saints - and the cool tie in that the team was announced on Nov 1st, All Saints Day.

Correct on 49'ers. Celtics are a very fuzzy body of people who were mostly on the European mainland. Funny, that. But you are correct there, too. It's just that the derivation isn't academically correct. Right on Clippers.
The Saints announcement was delayed until then just for kicks, to take advantage of the tie-in.
Someone reads! I love it!
Celts were mostly Ireland, touch of Scotland. When they moved to Scotland, they were mostly Catholic, that's why Glasgow Celtic is the Catholic team in Glasgow, and Rangers are no more.
Boston had a very heavy Irish Catholic influence in the 1900's, and thus the Celtics were born.
All of this is fluff, Dukes is the best name. Covers it all.

anyone know when the name will be announced and take place? Hate it couldnt be quicker and before the draft
Done next year likely.
I think that the name shouldn't just scream NOLA, it needs to be broad enough to appeal to all of Louisiana and the Gulf South. I'm not sure what that would be, but people in Jackson, MS, Monroe, La and Pensecola FLA need to identify with it in order for this team to succeed in such a small metropolitan market.
It's 800 sq feet thank you. And I can walk to the dome, arena, quarter, convention center, both streetcar lines - all within 8 blocks - or since I live off tchoup catch a cab going uptown at just about any time. So I think I'm pretty well rounded on knowing what sceams nola and what doesn't.
So... if the Lakers or Celtics moved here, they'd fail?
No, they won't move here, but the implication holds...
