I'm guessing there's a Gordon-for-Deng swap on the table. I'd be pleased if we could roll into opening day with the following:
Holiday/Roberts/Jackson
Evans/Rivers
Deng/Budinger OR Copeland/Miller
Davis/Anderson/Thomas
Lopez/Smith

The Pels would definitely have one of the most unique line-ups if they sign Evans and keep Gordon. Three guards in the backcourt who can get into the paint and finish at will; two being great shooters, too. And Evans sure looks bulky enough with a long enough wingspan to defend most SF's capable of being defended. Then Davis at the rim. Then Anderson from 3... goodness. Could be effective.
Dell obviously plans on starting Darius you guys...
Does the CBa allow you to backload a contract?
For example, could a 4 year 40 mil contract be
6 mil
10 mil
12 mil
12 mil
So we'd have two of our better players coming off the bench? Evans and Ryan Anderson?

Yeah, don't put too much into that "off the bench". That is just a way of the Pelicans not confirming that Gordon will be sent packing once Reke gets here. No way we pay them both.
So if Iggy for Gordon Swap goes through, We have a bench of
Vasquez, Rivers, Ryan Anderson, and Smitty,
One of the Best in the League.
If it doesn't?
Vasquez, Reke, Rivers, Ryan Anderson, and Smitty?
Best Bench in the League.
If we are offering 10 million a year, 1 of 2 things has to happen. We include Vasquez in a S&T, or we are cutting Lopez?
Maybe we not going after Iggy and probably gonna sign wright, Webster or even budinger
so does this mean we bring ryan anderson off the bench to start at the 3?
Tyreke would be the ultimate utility player. He could fill in for anyone (except the bigs obviously). Versatility is a great thing to have on a team looking to make the playoff push.
I LOVE this idea. Start someone cheap like Dorrell Wright or Aminu, and bring Evans off the bench. He still gets 30+ minutes per game, and he gets to have the ball in his hands and run the 2nd unit. I think it could really work. Rivers, Evans, and Anderson in the 2nd unit? That is going to be MASSIVE scoring. Plus, he'll play in crunch time, so the lineup would be Holiday, Gordon, Evans, Anderson, and Davis.
Don't look at him as a "backup." Look at it as him carrying the 2nd unit, and he'll play at the end of the 2nd quarter and at the end of the game. That's what's most important. Plus, he'll definitely average 30+ minutes per game.
Don't forget, we're also going after Chase Budinger. What if we somehow managed to get Budinger and Tyreke, and did this
Jrue/Austin
EJ/Tyreke
Budinger/Tyreke
Anderson/Davis
Davis/Smith
obviously there's more to fill, but that's a basic idea.
I'm sorry. Davis cannot play the 5 right now and I don't see it next year either.
Ok if Evans is signed for 10 mil a yr, EG is traded for a SF? I'm liking the direction the team might be headed, lots of young players who are good and have time to possibly get better.
Jrue, Evans, ?, Davis, Lopez w/ RA coming off the bench. Won't win a ring but will be exciting to watch.
Reke is starting at SF. This makes me want to keep Gordon just to have another outside shooter with Jrue! Can we get Buddinger still if we sign Reke to 10 mil a year?

Have been told the Pelicans' sheet to Tyreke Evans is four years, $44 million.
****
Guys... we're simply talking in circles.
Let the stories develop. Reke can't sign until the 10th anyways. You have any idea what will be reported tomorrow? Perhaps Dell is just doing his due diligence w/ Iggy and knew he wasn't a realistic target.
It's very possible he didn't want to shed Lopez/Vasquez completely just yet without exploring all possible options.
As far as Ryno, he'll continue to come off the bench, but the important thing is that he'll FINISH games w/ AD. Which is why Lopez is so valuable with his contract as a starting caliber Center playing less than 30 minutes a night. Evans and Gordon can definitely coexist. Remember, they were talking about playing Vasquez at the 3 this season some... Evans is likely in the same scenario once Vasquez is likely shipped out.
he gave up the same exact PER to centers and power fowards. However, he did better offensively at center and therefore had a better net production.

If it's really four years @ $44million, doesn't that cinch the view that we plan to trade Gordon if Evans signs? Presumably we would then sign one of the perimeter oriented swing players - someone like Buddinger.
Evans will assume most of the minutes that belonged to Rivers/Roberts/Henry/Thomas/Miller last year... I seriously doubt Gordon plays less than 30 minutes.
You'll like end up something something like: AD, Ryno, Gordon, Evans all playing 30+ and then having Lopez being about 20-25 with either Rivers or Vasquez seeing the next big step on minutes... likely under 20.
Loomis is involved with dealing with our Cap situation and from what he's doing with the Saints cap and getting good players I trust him.
Most good teams have a 7 or 8 player rotation for meaningful games. Don't need a full 2-deep of real contributors in playoffs.
Starters:
Holiday
Gordon
???
Davis
Lopez
Bench:
Anderson
Evans
??? Rivers, Miller, Smith
If Reke is signed and kings fail to match, you can pretty much guarantee that Gordon is gone IMO
My guess:
Keep GV to trade later, cut Robin Lopez. Sign Tyreke.
Loomis has been terrible with the saints lately; why does everyone slurp this dude?
