I would love that move. Would provide great depth at the SG/SF position while possibly taking steps towards being a starter at SF. I would even be down for snagging Porter from them so either way it would be a great move.

How is Barnes at $18 million a bad signing? That is around $10-$11 million under the old cap and when it rises again next year will be closer to $9-$10 million. You can honestly tell me paying Barnes around $10 million under the cap we are more familiar with is a bad move? Lol come on. It sounds bad but if you dig a little deeper it is a very good deal.
Let's see what Barnes gets first, then we'll say whether it was good or bad.
if it came down between parson and barnes for 15-18mil,,,i would go with barnes....
imo there are other options out there if KD goes and flip the nba on its head by signing with GS or the spurs.........GS will have to trade players to make room for KD and us trading for iggy this year and developing ennis is a plan.........
the spurs look like they would trade danny green and I don't know who else to make room for KD......green has 3 more years on his contract at 10mil...we could use him and buddy at SG and keep reke at the SF and try for the playoffs.......
that report said that the wizards have about 8 roster spot to fill so who would they be willing to move in a sign and trade?....I guess a third or 4th team can help....
But somehow I'm a fanboy who's an idiot because IMO signing him to $11 million under the old cap and in a year with the rising cap looking closer to $9-$10 million is a bad deal? Y'all can throw out these numbers like $18 million is crazy but when I put it in relative terms of what it actually is there is nothing to argue. I don't think anybody can sit here and honestly say paying Barnes $9-$11 million under the cap were familiar with is in anyway a bad deal. Even paying $20 million we are looking at $14 million and around $12 million in a year under the old cap. That's a decent deal without him progressing which should absolutely be expected from a 24 year old that he improved the past 2 years and will be getting a bigger role to put up bigger #s. $18 million under the new cap is market value for a 3rd-4th option especially with one at just 24 years old with lots of room to improve.
Hope we bring back Lance Thomas. Good defence, play hard, and much improve from the 3pt line. Would give hime 15M/3 years.
15-16 Salary Cap is $70mil
16-17 Salary Cap is $94mil
17-18 Salary Cap is scheduled to be $107 mil
Signing Barnes for $18mil this year is 19% of your cap. So in giving him a 19% proportion of your cap, that's would be like giving him a $13mil contract this last year. If it's a strait $18mil per year (meaning it doesn't increase as time goes on), then it drops down to being only 17% of your cap.

Hasaan Whiteside confirming that he's going to LA lol
So what happened to "Free agency begins July 1"?
Going to LA could mean visiting LA too. I mean, yeah, he probably will sign there because a what he said about not being the face of a lottery team was oh so accurate. But you gotta market your brand. Can't do that with Anthony Davis on your team in New Orleans.
Oh no. Can't ever do that...
Center: Omer Asik, Alexis Ajinca
Power Forward: Anthony Davis, Brandon Bass, Chiek Diallo
Small Forward: Harrison Barnes, Quincy Pondexter, Dante Cunningham
Shooting Guard: Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans
Point Guard: Jrue Holiday, Tim Frazier
Looking at the best team in the NBA and compare their roster(with additions of Barnes & Bass) with ours:
Omer Asik =/- Andrew Bogut (better for sure)
Alexis Ajinca = ?
Anthony Davis =/+++ no one (no one in the NBA is comparable really, guess he can be a better version of Draymond)
Brandon Bass =/- Draymond Green (poor man's Green but no where near as good, kind of like to bring back Bass to fill Green's role if cheap though)
Chiek Diallo =/+ Festis Ezeli (has a chance to be a WAY better player IMO)
Dante Cunningham =/- Marreese Speights (like DC's versatility but Speights size)
Harrison Barnes =/= himself (think he would make this team competitive from day one)
Quincy Poindexter =/-- Andre Iguodala (no where near Iggy, but can do some of the same things)
Buddy Hield =/- Klay Thompson (has a chance to be close to Klay IMO, but may take sometime)
Tyreke Evans = Shaun Livingston (Reke a better scorer, but Livingston better big point guard, hope Reke can give us more playmaking and not be a complete ball stopper and try to much hero ball, like that he can get you points though by himself)
Jrue Holiday =/-- Steph Curry (no where near Steph, but not a slouch at all. AD makes up for this comparison being our star)
Tim Frazier = Leandro Barbosa (better point guard, maybe not as good a scorer)
Whitside
Randall
Ingram
Clarkson
Russell
Might be a good team in 3 years.
This can be a great team if they reach their potential but either way that's a playoff team in 3 years IMO no doubt. Walton is a perfect coach for these guys and Whiteside would be exactly what they need at the center position. Ultimately I think Westbrook will end up in LA and they have the ammo with Russell to pull off a sign and trade. Lakers are in a great position over the next couple years to make huge leaps. They can attract big FAs while having tons of young pieces to trade away or keep to complete their team.
Looking through this list of players http://www.spotrac.com/nba/rankings/...small-forward/ look at those being paid $13mil. Seems reasonable to pay Barnes $18mil (certainly not the max).
That's what I have said all along. I never once said offer him he max but I wouldn't be totally against it if they didn't see any other way to improve the team. Like I said at worse we can use him as a trade chip in a year to possibly make a trade for someone like Butler. He along with our 1st round picks atleast gives us a chance at pulling off a trade otherwise we have nothing in a trade. Would love to move Reke and take Iggy off the Warriors hands while signing Barnes. That would be one hell of an off season and make us a damn good team. Let Hield come off the bench possibly for a year with Iggy playing SG. I still want to see Hield start but I wouldn't be against that route of it worked out that way.
Jrue/Iggy/Barnes
Frazier/Hield/QPon
This would be a damn good starting lineup and bench IMO. Lots of depth and versatility. Have a finishing lineup of Jrue/Hield/Iggy/Barnes/Davis
Under the cap this year that same 20m starting contract would start at 14.9m. The *max* salary for a player with 6 years of experience or under is 16.4m.
So when we start talking about 20m+ contracts we are discussing near max contracts. Those players better be a hell of a lot more than a 4th option.
Paying a player near max money based off of "potential" is a good way for us to get screwed again like we did with EG. Except of course, he actually showed something before the injuries destroyed him.
When did I say $20 million? If that fits your argument better like usual go ahead but I have stuck to $18 million. I would be ok for $20 million but IMO he's worth $18 million. Also in a year $20 million is the same as paying $18 million this year. So for 1 year we have to bite a little extra $. Gordon got paid the max which is different then him getting $14 million. Can throw out all of these big #s to sound crazy but when you put them in a sense of what they actually are it is not bad at all. So signing Barnes for that little extra $ costing us a Luke Bobbit is that terrible? No I don't think so. Injuries are what screwed us with EG so that isn't a good comparison. Also Barnes us obviously showed enough to get a Team USA big and even be considered to get a max contract. Again somehow you know more than the experts.
Let's see what he actually gets first. Any "fair" or "reasonable" contract for Barnes will be matched by Golden State. So if a team wants to steal him away they are going to have over pay, plain and simple.
Instead of all this hypothetical bull, let's just wait and see what contract he gets offered. I personally believe he will get offered over 20m/yr and I can easily see some team talking themselves into offering him the max.
Let's also not pretend that his contract won't have 4.5% increases every year as well. Even a 20m starting contract over 4 years is actually roughly 86m total. The max is start at roughly 23.5m. So we are looking at a roughly 4yr 100m contract.
Not true at all. If we get Barnes in earlier and he feels like GS is looking for someone else we can get a deal done very quickly. This gives GS very little time and I'm sure they feel confident enough to get either Durant or Horford and if not them possibly signing a Batum or Parsons to fill that role. If Barnes signs an offer sheet with us early GS will likely not be enough time to match it. If Barnes signs for an average of $18 million a year that's what his contract is. I still don't see how signing Barnes to be our 4th option is a bad move for us but not GS. Saying continuity makes 0 sense. If he's not worth it a good GM wouldn't overpay just for continuity. That's like saying Asik was a very good signing even though he wasn't worth the $. If Barnes is worth that to GS then he is worth more to us when his role will be expanded actually using more of his skill set than just designating him to stand around all game. He has much more potential than that and I don't think because he had the oppurtunity to step up for 2 games means other wise. They still used him the same in those games when Curry and Green were out anyway.
