Do they become useless? You're talking about a team that would have no real way to improve, with its best two players being 34+ with major injury histories. That is not a team that you believe will be a top shelf franchise in 2027.

I don't understand the mindset.

For all the media smoke that Griffin puts out there, I fully believe him when he said that working with a ''championship or bust'' mentality every year was miserable. I buy that completely. Yes, Griff dresses it up in vague pseudo-philosophical cliche, but the idea of building something and watching it grow and adding incrementally and fighting together as a franchise and a unit feels far far far more interesting and fun to me than saying ''hey Herb, hey BI, thanks for everything, go toil in Brooklyn now so we can get smashed in the WCF rather than the 2nd round next year.''

Gotta enjoy the process. Have a team you can root for, that's number one.

After officially completing trade with Hawks today, the Spurs are expected to waive F Danilo Gallinari, sources tell ESPN. As a free agent, Gallinari will be able to choose among contenders in both conferences.

Not sure why. If the Nets have Kyrie still (plausible) and they still have Ben Simmons, and they acquire Ayton and possibly Bridges, why would they sell off high value players? They just acquired Royce O'Neale for a 1st rounder, that's an indicator that they're not looking to go on a firesale.

I see the logic, but all that’s assuming he’s traded to the suns and kyrie stays. I’m of the mind that he goes somewhere other than phx and kyrie wants to leave regardless

I agree with this 100%, but different people find joy in different things. If some people want a "mercenary" championship then they just have different priorities.

Personally, I don't want Durant. I want to see this team grow together. I don't want to trade any of CJ/BI/Zion/Herb. I don't want to blow up our salary cap situation where we can't afford our role players. Its pretty clear Griff feels the same way. But we'll see what they do!

And I am trying to understand that joy, not condemn it. Like I personally wouldnt have gotten much/any joy from a 2020 Lakers type title. I actually think the joy is from being able to give the middle finger to the fans of rival teams. Sincerely, I do. I think that is a lot of sports joy nowadays. Analysts pick your team to lose, fans of other teams talk trash and hate on moves, etc and then you win and the "bragging rights" from winning is where the joy is found - or better yet, lack of not having bragging rights and having to hear it.

I think the pure, true joy comes from what I described above. But I think some Pels fans are just so tired of hearing they are a joke of a franchise, they will never win, etc and the joy will be from being able to cast middle fingers at all those people and all those narratives.

I am fascinated by humans who continually are involved in high drama situations and refuse to see the one common denominator (themselves) in every situation. I think that is a poor strawman. The fan base clearly thinks the next Warriors is being built internally and they dont want to do away with that. Now, we can debate how truly bright the Pels future is, but the fact remains that this fan base thinks internal growth will lead to a title contender very soon. They do not see 7-10 seed.

When a fanbase is so desperate for mediocrity... They would be happy with anything till they get embarrassed with yearly 1st round exits. Regardless if they want to be honest or not... Winning raise standards. They'll be the 1st ones to yell for a rebuild.
