Heart break hotel.
Lost in all this was the fact that Rivers had a great 2nd half, and he did a really good job running the backup point. No coincidence there. Roberts needs to sit for the rest of the season. Rivers showed a lot tonight at the 1.
Roberts has already lost his job.
I loved what I was seeing from him at the point.
So what does Monty do? He slides him to the 2, plays him for 20 seconds along side Vasquez, and proceeds to bench Rivers for the remainder of the game.....
So
8 Points
15 Assists
3 Steals
4 Rebounds
2 Turnovers
is a horrible game to you. He shot poorly tonight, but He has been hitting clutch shots during our winning streak. Where is the *****ing for all the missed Free Throws by Davis and the rest of the team? Vasquez was not why we lost. You would rather us play who at PG that can rack up those stats and contribute to this team. Monty waited maybe 2 or 3 minutes to long to put the starters back in.
Gordon had the ball at the end of the game btw...
People chill out. Look at the positives. We played a good game, but ran into a team on fire shooting.
I'm sick of seeing our backups going against other team's starters for 9 to 10 minutes at a time.
I know he's your favorite player, and I like him too, but you can't honestly tell me he was having a good game... Defense was bad all night, turnovers were untimely, missing open shots, bad decisions in the half-court, etc.... He had an off game. It happens. Still, though, he shouldn't have been in the game at the end. Monty needs to be able to recognize when players are having bad games. That's something I thought he would have picked up from Pop (one of his mentors) who is THE best in the game when it comes to sitting players who are struggling.
Oh, man... I was screaming at the refs all night, but that doesn't change the fact that we should have won this game had we not gone 50% from the stripe. That's unacceptable.
He had 2 turnovers... Do you really think Rivers was better for the PG. He practically shot a 3 pointer off the backboard earlier. You are overreacting.
To put it in perspective.... Rivers had 3 turnovers in half the time Vasquez played... lol Watch out... Rivers will come in a close out this game...
I don't look at stats, so I don't know how to respond to this. I watch the game, not the boxscore. Vasquez was off, and I'm not talking about his shooting.
Gordon had the ball about 50% of the time at the end of the game. The ball should be in his hands every single trip down the floor. He wanted the max because he can close games. Let him do what he does.... what he gets paid to do.
Thats what has me pissed....he's always talking about going with the hot hand but he sits AD until 5min left? Then those switches at the end where he put in Roger Mason & Smith in for Anderson & Aminu...and as soon as it happend both of them cause fouls sending GS to the FT line. Gordon should have the ball in his hands the last 5-7 min of the game. Vasquez IMO unless its wide open should not be shooting 27ft 3pts when he's 3 for 10 on the night......
and again DAVIS SHOULD NOT BEE SITTING FOR DAMN NEAR THE ENTIRE 4th QTR.
This is why I KEEP stressing that Monty needs a offensive assistant on the bench with him that has major input on rotations. Dude out thinks himself way too much. Sometimes you just need to keep what you have on the floor. As soon as the lead started slipping is exactly the time Davis & the rest of your starters come in plain & simple...its not a hard logic to grasp...especially when playing a good shooting team like GS.
he had two TO's neither of which led to points. the shots golden state were hitting were tough for anyone to guard. he has been a main reason the hornets are winning now along with gordon and he definitely deserves to be in the end of the game. I honestly don't know what you are talking about or thinking right now
Minutes:
Jack - 36
Curry (off a sore ankle) - 38
Thompson - 38
Landry - 38
Davis - 32
Gordon - 31
Vasquez - 34
Anderson - 28
Our winning players should have played winning minutes. Not to mention Lopez only playing 19 against a small, bad defensive team.
So Vasquez with the Flu can't have an off night before we explode on him for having an off night. I don't remember you yelling for Anderson benching when he was off or when Davis was off? I'm just confused on why you think Vasquez was having a "horrible" game when most teams in the league would love a PG to put up those numbers.
Yeah, we did a lot of good, but the game breaker was the rate free throws as a result of the team fouls. The Warriors were in the bonus too early in the 4th and that makes it really hard to play tough D midway in the fourth and it resulted in the Warriors getting easy scores in a tight game. and we are too good of a free throw shooting team to miss all the free throws we did tonite. I think Monty playing Jason Smith at the end is fine as had produced great results, I just disagreed with having him in tonite with Davis playin so well overall.
Rivers is a 20 year old rookie. Vasquez is 26. He shouldn't be turning the ball over in clutch situations. That's something he really needs to work on.
I watched the whole game, and Vasquez was off. You see big assist numbers, and I think the assist is an incomplete statistic. I don't care about assists. His penetration was horrible, he wasn't hitting his floater that he usually does, he had 2 big TOs, and he played NO defense.
Again, I'm a Vasquez fan, but that doesn't mean I can't be critical of him when he has a bad game. I'm not going to "hate" on Vasquez because of one game. It is what it is. I've said what I needed to say, so we can just agree to disagree.
Whether or not he had a good game, he is a better option than Rivers down the stretch. Plain and simple.
And Vasquez being off is hardly why we lost this game.
Not sure why this is such a big topic right now.
I think you are misunderstanding me. Just because I'm saying Vasquez had a bad game doesn't mean he shouldn't finish games going forward. I'm saying that Monty needs to recognize when certain players aren't playing well, and he needs to play the guys that are hot. Anderson was playing great, but he only got 28 minutes... That is unacceptable! Gordon, far and away our best player, only got 31 minutes! That isn't okay. Monty needs to grow as a game-manager (something he has never been very good at, but he has made some improvements since his rookie year). My point is that Vasquez was stinking it up in the 4th quarter, and he practically gave the game away between his bad decisions and bad shooting.
What's with the blame game? We had our chances. Both Gordon and Vasquez had their opportunities. Turnovers down the stretch by both of our key players at the end of the game killed us. We lost this game as a team.
I think our poor Free Throw shooting gave the game away. Not Monty or Vasquez. Take a chill pill. You sound angry. lol
vazquez did have the flu
I knew we would lose as soon as the Warriors passed the 100 mark. The Hornets rarely, rarely, rarely win when they give up 100+
ETA: well I didn't know, but I knew it was a really good chance.
Man... The Vasquez lovers on this forum are intolerable. If I say he had one bad game (didn't even put the loss on him, I actually put the loss on Monty), you guys jump down my throat.
I never said bench Vasquez for the rest of the season. I never said replace him with Rivers (actually, I would have replaced him with Aminu, who was having a good game). I never said he shouldn't be a closer anymore. I never said I jumped off the Vasquez bandwagon. I never said he isn't a leader. I don't get why you guys are freaking out. If a player has a bad game, I'm going to talk about it. Just deal with it.
Anyway, I can see this is fruitless. I'll bow out, but Vasquez still had a bad game no matter how many Vasquez-lovers run to his aid.
Night folks!
I understand you more than you know. I just disagree that Vasquez had a horrible or even bad game. He left in the third quarter playing very well. He wasn't going to come back with 5 mins left in the 4th, foul, miss two threes and sit down. Gordon wasn't productive in the clutch either that's why GV was taking the threes even though he wasn't feeling it.

Our winning players should have played winning minutes. Not tomention Lopezonly playing 19 against a small, bad defensive team.
Yea, especially with a young team like ours and having 2 DAYS off against a back-to-back for GS.
Fact is there are many factors that come into play in this loss. Rotations, Missed FTs, bad TOs in key situations, bad fouls, bad shots....all had to do with it.
You can add bad coaching on defense that didnt get fixed until the game was damn near over. You DO NOT need to leave their shooters to help Davis (or any Hornets big against GS) in the post. GS ate them up all night from that poor defensive strategy.

Just got home...we shoulda woulda coulda won this game.. Make our free throws we win..
13/23 on free throws
9/24 from 3
tells most of the story right there.
NBA.com: "Hornets shoot 57 percent ... and lose to G.S.". :hihi:
just hurts that we didn't get looks up between austin turning it over, gordon turning it over & then the illegal screen
