Diallo doing work. These D-League dudes stink though.
A lot of sloppy mistakes and turnovers.
What the play of summer league BY FAR!!! Pick and roll with Buddy & Diallo, with Diallo rolling to the hoop to catch an alley oop from Buddy for the DUNK!!! That was awesome!!
I expect Buddy to be better as he practices with regular roster. I was really encouraged by Diallo. McKay was noticed today. And I like the potential of Cat Barber. Everyone else will not be invited.
Would have been nice if Buddy gave us a little more to be excited about. Just SL but definitely was somewhat of a disappointment. Struggling the way he did could be the best thing for him though. Just wish over there next few months I had something to back up the way I feel he will play. Atleast he gave us some nice flashes. Surprisingly Diallo was the most consistent player when it should be the opposite. We are going to have a player in that kid.
Can find a box score.
Can somebody put up Diallo and Heilds stats?
How did Inglis do?
Thanks
All good I found it.
It was originally not loading the stats.
I hope this showing is a just the fact the Heild is playing with half a team and not what we will see of Buddy.
Otherwise Buddy will have to add to his names.
Buddy "bull******** artist" because he talks the talk.
I don't worry about poor shooting in the summer league. Missing shots on a new team as the focal point of the offense for four games isn't a big deal. What I do worry about though is that if he is being affected by the change of quality or speed of play, he is going to be really out of depth once he's playing against NBA teams. Buddy almost got his points per shot down to half of Curry's this last season, which is amazing. I know he won't be the focal point of the offense and taking enough shots for it to happen and it is only four games but that would have been tied for 455th out of 474 players in points per shot. It'd be great if he just came out of the gates this season and was efficient beyond all belief, putting the nail in the coffin for determining anything from Summer League.
Other than McKay and Diallo nobody did much at all. McKay actually looked pretty good getting to the rim. Long athletic player who might get an invite.
Buddy Hield
30 minutes / 11 points / FG 5-18 / 3PT 1-7 / 5 assits / 2 rebounds / 1 steal / 1 TO
Chieck Diallo
28 minutes / 12 points / FG 5-12 / FT 2-3 / 10 rebounds (3 offensive) / 3 blocks
Jameel McKay
26 minutes / 16 points / FG 7-10 / FT 2-4 / 13 rebounds (5 offensive) / 4 blocks / 2 TOs
Damien Inglis
8 minutes / 2 points / FG 1-2 / 2 rebounds / 2 assits / 3 blocks / 4 TOs
Edit: just realized you found the stats. If anybody else was looking here you go.
Really disappointed with Buddy's shooting. Diallo can get stats because hes so athletic and has nice touch, but he will prolly only see garbage time minutes this year unless we're hamstrung by injuries again.
I guess the other factor is Buddy has been the focal point of the offense and is creating off the dribble more than he will once the season starts.
Lets go Hield, start splashing.
Yea I definitely agree. I'm not concerned with Buddy's shooting at all yet but anybody saying it wasn't disappointing is lying to themself. I think it will actually come easier in the regular season for him shooting than it was in SL. One thing I liked that he did was create for others well and showed he can play as part of a system not just being the main focal point shooting everytime he touches the ball. That was really the only question I had with him is how he would adjust to the system and not feeling like he needs to force everything. His defense was ok but can definitely improve. Overall disappointing from him but definitely showed some promise in areas that I wanted to see.
Diallo looked very well but IMO he will be the opposite of Buddy having a much harder time in the regular season with his play style. If he was stronger with some more weight on him I would feel better but he will get man handled by most right now. I'm sure he could still be effective though and really we don't know how good he could be considering he played better than expected. So little tape in him to really know what to expect. Very obvious he has tons of potential. His mid range shot looked good at times and bad others. The great thing is I don't think his shot is stuck one way and can very easily be molded since he is so raw. I doubt he has the muscle memory having developed a bad shooting stroke. If he can add a consistent mid range jumper to his game I have no doubt he will be a very good NBA player. The weight and strength will come with time. Very good and consistent SL from Diallo.
Did Diallo have a double-double every game?
These Meeks - Heild comparisons are starting to ******** me off
Summer League puts to rest the idea that the best team in college basketball could beat the worst team in pro-basketball.
I like Buddy's development in these games as time has gone on.
His shot has been hard to come by, I think thats partly because he doesn't have explosiveness to get by players, and also he's getting hassled almost all game.
His passing has improved alot though over these few games, getting them to people in position to score instead of awkward ones at the knees.
He needs to work on his handle, particularly the left hand, most of his issues came up when he started using his left hand.
Overall an Ok showing by him, but his playmaking is reasonable, as is his defence. This would make him better than Eric Gordon's been for us the past couple season, if he shoots a reasonable percentage from 3 this season.
As Isiah has said every game, there are two, sometimes three guys around Buddy whenever he gets the ball. No team respects anyone else. And frankly, we were very predictable offensively. Pretty much every possession Hield is in on they bring the PG up and try and get Hield the ball on the perimeter. It was so predictable. Whats worse is no one else was respected by defenses so they could execute it all game.
I agree with everything you said though. It was nice to see him grow each game in other areas despite his shot not falling. Averaging 5 assists every game for the last 3 outings. Tied for most total on the team. Second leading rebounder after Diallo.
For the one guard who was knocked as a passer, he ended up averaging more assists then Dunn and Murray. Both of those guys who were primary facilitators on their teams.
Cheick Diallo played just 202 minutes at Kansas. He's played 189 total between the NBA Combine (44) and Las Vegas Summer League (145). Over seven games (SMALL SAMPLE SIZE ALERT) he's averaging:
11.9 points
8.7 rebounds
2.4 blocks
2.6 fouls (actually a really solid total for a young shot blocker)
52.3% FG (34/65)
75.0% FT (12/16)
I think Buddy will put up close to 14 ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg, and 1 spg as a rookie.
I just checked out Jameel McKays combine measurements and man is that kid long! He's 6'9 with a 7'3.5" wingspan and 9'1.5" standing reach which is very good. Was a very good rebounder in college while shooting around 60% from the field. Looked explosive today getting to the rim and looked very good using that length to block some shots. Definitely would not mind this kid coming to camp which I think he will and even would be nice to see him in the DLeague. IMO I would rather see him get a shot than anyone else I watched.
