Take wiser risks is my point. Barnes is not a wise risk. Its an even more obvious bad risk then Eric Gordon was, Omer Asik was, and James Posey was.
If your goal is winning long term, paying Barnes leading man money is the wrong long term strategy. Christian Laetner made an Olympics, so did Demar Derozan. I wouldn't pay either of them their max for this team.
Harrison Barnes is Trevor Ariza with slightly better three point shooting and worse defense and I wouldn't pay Trevor Ariza 20+ million to come here. Trevor Ariza is actually a great analogy because like Barnes, he was overpaid coming off a championship team with the hope of him being a leading man when all indications were he wasn't one and wouldn't be one. Though at least Ariza had a reputation for showing up big in the post season.
