Porter - Burke - Oladipo?

Well since we are officially slotted at 5 and with Smart not entering the draft, if we wind up with the 5th pick one of these guys I strongly feel will be our choice since all 3 seem like Monty Dell type guys.

Porter - my favorite of the 3 and is exactly what u want and what we need for a SF. He can create his own shot, drive, finish, dunk, hit reverse layups, great 3 point range, awesome mid range game, great defender and rebounder and an above average passer for a SF. Was the man on a bad georgetown team and still produced even though everyone knew he was the guy. He might be a sophmore but he is only 19 and is a year younger than burke and a year and a half younger than oladipo.

Burke - a true point guard and I think his game his tailor made for the NBA with his IQ, scoring and passing. Think whatever team he goes to will look back and say they got a top 3 player from this draft.

Oladipo - advanced stats wise he was the best offensive and defensive player in all of college basketball. he is the definition of a monty type of guy and his energy is infectious to his team. Say what u want but for a guy who is as athletic as he is and get defensively i see a lot of offensive potential, he shot 44% from 3, has a good looking stroke and is a hard worker, plus a jumpshot is the easiest thing to fix and I see this guy doing just that. He has nice handles to, Last year when he crossed up MKG for a fade away jumper I was impressed.

Porter. Highest floor, has length, doesn't take plays off at all. Not many weaknesses besides the fact that he shoots like Rivers. I don't know if he can create his own shot on the perimeter, but he can definitely get to the basket and his length allows him to make a lot of crazy shots like Davis. He gives your roster tons of versatility, and I think eventually he can be a decent spot minutes power forward, if we ever reach the point where we go small.

well his jumpshot form is only a weakness if it doesnt go in, but it does, porter has a sick mid range game unlikes rivers.
Also Porter is the guy im highest on.

Close between Porter and Burke. I like both over Oladipo.

It's a weakness for my eyes, mainly. I won't complain about it, because he shoots supper effectively from the least most efficient spots on the floor. That's the best thing about him is he's always worked on parts of his game that are the most difficult to work on, so now he can learn the easier stuff at the next level. He also wasn't very highly touted out of High School, so I think he has that chip on his shoulder that he's always going to want to prove something and get better.

ya another thing i keep reading scouts say about him is that he really has very under rated athleticism, they say u dont see it now because he is only 19 but it will develop and when it does and he puts another 10 pounds on he will be very strong and athletic going to the rim, i just love his upside and really hope we land him.

I'd agree with this. I like Porter a lot. He is a great role player, and he has a really well-rounded game. I wonder if he is a game changer though. See, you need role players like Porter on a championship team, but do you draft these guys in the top-3 or top-5? I'm not sure... Burke is a game changer to me. He is a true floor general who can lead a team and run the offense. I love that. Porter can't really create his own offense, so he'll always have limitations in that regard. That said, we do have Rivers and Gordon on the team who can create their own offense, so it's a tough choice. I really don't have a legit answer, but my gut is telling me Burke.

Well if he is a role player i think he has the potential be the best role player, only being 19 and as good as he is with tons of room to get better i see it hard for him not to average 17-7-4 which is actually the same as paul george averages. this is all while being a great defender.

its just that i had a very good feeling about paul george in the draft and really wanted him to be our guy and missing him by 1 pick i was furious and still am not over it, but if we can land otto porter i might finally be able to live with it lol. rivers gordon davis and porter is a serious group, all very good scorers and defenders, no weaknesses in our roster.

Good problem to have between Porter and Burke. Burke would probably help this team more immediately while Porter will need time like Rivers and Davis to add weight to his frame and improve his game overall to really have that top 5 lottery effect. He's got to add a good 20 to 30 lbs to his frame and that could take a while.

He's about 205, 15 more pounds would be plenty Paul George is 6'10 220 also porter is only 19 so I still see him growing

Davis is also listed at 6'10" 220. Do they look at all like they possibly have the same height and weight? George is more like 6'8/8.5" 225/230 at this point and he's a lot more athletic than Porter.

Last I checked Porter was listed at 200 and that probably includes that college bio generosity.

davis was listed at that becuase that how he measured at the combine, since then its obvious he has grown an inch and put on 5-10 pounds, and i saw otto porter's listed weight at 205. regardless i dont put too much into weight, look at kevin durant

really only 3 ways I see us being able to land porter

1. If we land the #1 pick
2. If we luck out in the lottery and jump ahead of Cleveland in the draft
3. If Cleveland lands the #1 pick

Also if we land the #1 pick who do u think we take? im thinking mclemore so gordon and his contract would be expendable and we could trade him for a nice SF.

I really don't think we can trade Gordon for any possible SF besides Jarred Dudley.. -_-

Good post slim. Burke is the biggest game changer of the 3. I think he ends up the best NBA player from this draft. I'd take him #1 overall and I'll be livid if we select anyone over him. Rivers is a perfect 1/2 6th man type. Do you guys think Rivers and Burke would play well together?

Porter/Oladipo (don't prefer anyone in particular) then Burke. I'd be happy with either of the three.

Personally, I feel like only 1 of those 3 will be available.

all 3 bring something different to the table, burke brings awesome offense, porter brings great o and d, oladipo brings awesome defense, cant wait to see what route monty and demps go.

What I want to know is if the order stays where it is who do ppl
believe will take either Burke or Porter before our 5th pick?

sure no problem, and no he doesnt have to be, just because both are centers doesnt mean u cant play both of them, u could just play matchups, have vucevic on the other teams bigger guy and have noel on the other teams more athletic guy, i feel the nba is becoming less and less about positions and more about matchups. But I do think one of the magic's sf's will get traded out of moe harkless and tobias harris and i would LOVE to get one of them! either one. The magic need a young PG or SG very soon. I wouldnt mind trading GV for one of those young SF's straight up or Gordon for Vucevic and one of harkless or tobias.

It's dipo for me. I think he is the bpa out of those. Hard worker. Good shot. Finishes. Great defender.

If it was in my hands I would probably go with Burke.

Porter reminds me quite a lot of t. Prince. Their shoting mechanics are very similar, they both shot pretty good %, can rebound, defend, both are long but not very athletic.

Which is not bad.

Burke. Like some have mentioned I feel he has the greatest upside while still being the most proven college players. The league is becoming more and more about the primary ball handler and it's become PNR heavy two aspects of the game Burke has accelled at UM.

After Trey I'd say Oladipo then Porter. I agree Porter is the safer pick between the two. My personal philosophy while drafting is swing for the fences. Strike outs in the NBA draft are only slightly more harmful than singles and doubles. However Home runs can redefine a frachicse.

Again I'm holding out hope that we can use any combo of Gordon/Vasquez/Lopez to secure another top pick to get Burke and Oladipo to man our backcourt for years to come.

I would pick Oladipo mainly for the purpose of improving our defense. The Pelicans have a very poor defense and no true lock down wing defender. Adding him gives us a guy that can come in and be an above average defender and hopefully develop into a great defender. He can be the D and 3 guy this team desperately needs. My second choice would be Porter because i believe its easy to upgrade SF this year through the draft rather than FA. I wouldn't draft burke because i think we can get a better PG like Bledsoe or Jennings through FA or a trade.

holes at both, but Rivers at least poses a possible solution at PG. no solution on SF on this roster at all

It's hard to pass on Burke if he is available. He is a true PG !

I like Porter a lot because he could complement well our line up, bring some shooting at the 3 spot, some D, and may turn into a defensive nightmare a la Aminu ! He is really a Monty-type of player !

Dipo is very good defensive player with high motor and impressive athleticism. But what worries me a bit is his offense. He has poor ball handling to drive properly at the next level IMO. He goes almost always drives right, and his drives are straight lines. He has a good shooting form, but he is not really a shooter.
I know he is another Monty-type of player, but I don't want to draft a smaller Aminu.

If we can't get Porter, we should look at Shabazz. I know he is a poor ball handle but at least he is known for his spot-up shooting. He brings toughness, athleticism and versatility. Plus he plays off the ball so he could complement very well Rivers and EG. I trust Monty enough to teach him to play hard on O and D !

So my order will be : Burke> Porter > Bazz > Oladipo

And am I the only one around here who thinks Cody Zeller is a better prospect than Trey Burke? I think Burke is a good player, but I don't think he's an elite prospect. The league is littered with good PGs, many of whom were drafted in the mid to late first round. However, the league is lacking talent at PF/C. I think Zeller could easily be an 18/8 player in this league. I know the team has Ryan Anderson there as well, but you can never have enough good bigs in this league.

Besides... many people wanted this team to move up and draft Andre Drummond last year despite knowing we had Ryan Anderson and were going to draft Davis.

Best player available. Think of history! (The passing of lillard, Jordan, etc.)

drummond is a true center 100% zeller is not, we need a drummond type center next to AD. a banger, someone tough, not soft. And statistically zeller got worse this year than last year, thats not a good sign, could already have reached his ceiling

Anthony Davis is a Center and will play Center most likely by his third season. Zeller would be a PF here in the likes of David West.

No one needs a Drummond type of Center. Davis will be the best Center in the league within 5 years. Zeller is also a better player than Drummond. Prospect? Maybe not. But Drummond has major flaws that he will most likely never be able to correct. His free throw issues stand out the most. Hack a Drummond will be the norm considering he can't even make 40% of his free throws, let alone 50, which is typically what you consider successful if you employ the Hack-a-Player strategy.

Cody Zeller would most likely have been drafted higher than Drummond last year had he declared. His only real flaw is that he doesn't have a long wingspan, so he will probably never be a great defender.

ur assuming davis will be a center, it isnt guaranteed. and if that is the case id rather anthony bennett than rivers, sure people can say he is bad on D but people said the same about rivers, in the nba with a good coach and next to people like davis he would be fine, plus he is an absolute force.

Only way Davis isn't a Center is if they get a bigger guy next to him, like Lopez. But I don't think it's out of the question to think that Lopez was brought in, especially on his non-guaranteed contract, to just fill in that spot until Davis puts on that 15 pounds of muscle the team has planned for Davis to add over the next two off-seasons. Plus, at his talent, Davis's value to the team goes through the roof as a Center. There are a lot more players in the league that can do what he does as a PF compared to guys that play Center. It's just like if Ryan Anderson was a SF. His value would drop like a rock. There are plenty of good 3 point shooting SFs.

Davis already shares the floor a lot with Anderson anyway. And there are very few "bangers" at center in the league anymore. There are much more stretch bigs and bigs that can run the floor. Zeller can run the floor with anyone, as can Davis.

Again, I wouldn't take Cody over Porter, McLemore, or Noel. And I'd like to see just how short his wingspan is. But I'm not as sold on Burke as a lot of people here are. He's not Chris Paul like some here have tried to compare him to. Chris Paul played with nobodies at Wake Forest and had a work ethic and will to win unlike almost any player you would see. Trey Burke played with 3 others who likely could be lottery picks. He'll be a very good NBA player, but his value as a PG prospect over the next PG prospect is likely not anywhere close to the value a good PF/C prospect could give you over the next prospect at that position.

It's a toss up between Burke or Porter! I would take either one!
