If you could change the name of the Hornets franchise what would you change it too?
Only Rule: You can't be the Jazz. I can't see that ever happening again with the way the NBA works
My ideas:
- Voodoo
- Cajuns
- Hurricanes
- Gamblers
- Blackjacks

New Orleans Brass
A name I was against is now a name I'm in favor of ... HH's Buccaneers. It's our first professional basketball team name, and it works for our region.
One of things we learned when we first got the Hornets was that there are not a lot of good names out there. For example: Thunder. :hihi:
Here is a name for the original members of the board: NEONIGHTS!!! :hihi:
I like the name Hornets and I like Hugo (and The Bees, The Buzz, The Hive, The Honeybees, The Used To Bees, "BEE-FENSE" and all the other nicknames that go with it). And I think the fans and New Orleanians overall have embraced them as well.
I've always been in favor of a name change, (even though I've grown to accept and like the Hornets name)Quote:

I have to disagree with that assessment.Quote:

They even brought back the pinstripes. :hihi:
But, we have no idea if Chouest cares for the name as is, likes Teal, or would want to break from it's past. I assume he would, I think if you got a chance to own a franchise then you would want to put your mark on it.
What happened to the Sonics in OKC should have happened to the Hornets in New Orleans. Shinn was too tied to the colors and name, so we have been stuck with it. We never got the chance to enjoy a name the team or pick the colors contest. I felt they did more in OKC to identify with that city than they did here.
Hornets has grown on me.
However, if a really good local-flavored nickname was to come up, I'd be in favor of the name change as part of a complete fresh start for this team.
But all of the local nicknames I've heard so far just seem forced just to be local. In my opinion that is the worst thing we could do. Force a terrible name on this team just because it's "local flavor".
So unless something comes along that knocks our socks off, I'd rather stay Hornets.
I don't. I think the name has been embraced after all these years. A name change in the beginning was needed and should have been done, but an identity has been garnered IMO.Quote:

If a change of name was mandatory how about:
New Orleans Gumbo
New Orleans Spice
New Orleans Zydeco
New Orleans Pelicans
Krewe of New Orleans
New Orleans Angels
Mardi Gras Mambo
New Orleans Lagniappe
And Voodoo, Brass, or Jesters would be awesome too if we could get the rights to the names.
NEONIGHTS! ;)
I like
- Soul
- Blues
- Trumpets
- Buccaneers
- Brass
I'm hesitant to start playing the game until the sale rumors are confirmed and Chouest expresses an interest in rebranding. For all I know he might actually like the name and the awful teal... which would make me cry.
Soul or Blues
why even commentQuote:

Either Buccannears or we blackmail Utah into giving us back our Jazz.
New Orleans Bourbons ?
Weren't plenty of locals called Bourbons back in the civil war days ? Old name descended from France
Bourbons referred to a conservative businessman planter group in Louisiana. I believe.
New Orleans Big Daddies?
Hate the Buccaneers, mainly because I can't stand the team in Tampa. Also, it's not really a cool name.
Arc Angels
Buccaneers, Pilots, Gamblers, Swampthings, Rebels, Jazzz, Gators.
Authentic Jazz
Complete with orange zubaz uniforms.
Let's play! With any luck, we'll get a complete rebrand as well. Since we can't have Jazz back, I'm still a "Buccaneers" guy. The name has basketball history in our city and local relevence. Just "jazz" up the color scheme to purple, green and gold.Quote:

The only name id want besides the current one is Jazz. This club has been here for almost 10 years, minus the katrina period, a name change now would be stupid. Unless its Neonights.
NEONIGHTS! Re: the ten years thing, while that's true the Hornets still aren't really ingrained in the city. I mean, do they even get more than two minutes coverage on any local media outlet not counting Gerry and this website? Obviously there's a sizeable ticket base and a group of hardcore fans but it just seems a lot of people around the city and region are totally oblivious/indifferent to the fact that New Orleans has an NBA team.
In the years the Hornets have been in New Orleans the team has played in 2 cities and still has strong identity ties to it's original home.
For all intents and purposes the Hornets are like a vagabond franchise. They have called 3 cities home in less than a decade. If any team in the NBA needs a re-branding it's the Hornets.
Clay re-branded the Sonics for several reasons, the main one is that he wanted OKC to have it's own franchise. It's worked, while they will always be the Sonics, they don't have any visual ties to the Sonics. The Hornets look exactly like the would in CLT right now, with the exception of the FDB.
Personally I feel like a re-branding would breathe new life into the franchise, with our history that can't be a bad thing.
buccaneers, tho no one would spell it all and there'd be confusion with bucs and bucks..oh well..
The Bucs vs. the Bucks!
Well, it would help if the third most populous parish in the metro area could actually watch the games on TV...but that's another topic.Quote:

New name, new colors, new jerseys, new logo, new staff! Though I really like the FDB and don't mind the hornets name,I think a rebrand and new look would give this team a new identity. It would also relate better with the city and fans.
Out of those two names, Blues would be my first pick. Blue is my favorite color so i'm partial! I'm from Mississippi so that name to me works better not just for New Orleans but the whole gulf coast region.I also think it would be sick to have some all black jerseys with blue trim similar to the CP3 swingman jerseys they sell in the Hive store.
I would love the buccaneers, mainly because of those awesome throwbacks we wore a while back. They looked better than all the other jerseys we have had combined
-Swamp Rats
- VD'S
- Corny Dogs
and my personal favorite
-Burros de fuego
don't like Bucs for 2 reasons 1) tampa and 2) bucks ... we're an original city and we need an original name.
Of course it should be JAZZ, and if any amount of money could make the "reclamation" happen, maybe Chouest is the guy to answer our prayers. i really think the effort & expense would be worth fully exploring (can you imagine how much merchandise he'd sell if it happened??)
Other than JAZZ, the only thing I prefer over Hornets is BRASS.
either way, please ditch the teal and bring back true mardi gras colors.
i really really really doubt we can somehow bring the jazz brand back..i'd love to see it happening of course but imo there's not even a slightest chance
THe New Orleans Soul is actually growing on me a bit, but I love the Brass.
Hate the Buccaneers. Too associated with Tampa Bay at this point.
Being from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and now living in Lake Charles, I would also prefer a Gulf South moniker.
Even if we don't get Jazz back, and we are not ... I would have no problem at all with shipping both the name "Hornets" and the color Teal to CLT immediately. Looking around the internet CLT fans seems to be excited because, like some of us, are hoping to get their proper name back.
:)
Which means Hurricanes?
Another Gulf South name could be Oilers
New Orleans Oilers
Port Shrimp
Oilers? No thanks that reminds me too much of ****ing houston and texas
