"2 things are happening, his stomach's going one way and his behind's going the other way."
I don't like either of these clowns but that was funny.
Wow, we needed another Zion hate thread? I figured the other 3 were enough but apparently not.
Edit: and 2 of them were also started by 13-3? I've heard of pushing an agenda but Christ, give it a rest.
Everyone knows my opinion on Zion. When he's fully healthy and playing well, he's an MVP level player, who has nevertheless been inconsistent due to a combination of team turmoil, injuries, and weight issues. Unlike most others, I'm sympathetic to those difficulties while also acknowledging that he needs to be better and take control of certain aspects that he can control even if he can't control everything - I don't see any use in buying into Stephen A Smith's ''Zion will eat the table'' rhetoric.
To me, the majority of the discussion surrounding Zion is difficult to have because on the one hand you have some people who want the best for him and for the team, and are concerned that he isn't maximising his talent - which of course, impacts the team. This is, I think, valuable discussion.
On the other hand, you have grown adults who somehow never matured past the age of 16 ignoring all the good games so that they can wait for a bad one in order to take pot-shot fat jokes. That's not productive, and while I'm generally okay with internet anonymity, this also strikes me as another example of people getting brave behind a keyboard.
Is he fixable? Sure. I share the opinion of Shaq and Chuck in their immediate post-game discussion on air. They both said roughly the same thing: Zion is a phenomenal talent who, on his best day, is far and away the best player the Pelicans have and is in that elite upper echelon of NBA players. But talent sometimes isn't enough, and what's important is learning from those moments; for Shaq, that was a teammate telling him that he wasn't running as hard as he thought he was. Shaq said he was surprised by that, he felt like he was giving his all, but when he really thought about it he realised there was another gear he wasn't used to accessing because his talent let him coast. The question for Zion now is this: now he's felt the moment that talent is no longer enough, will he find that other gear? We don't know yet. Personally I think it's possible, I've seen him play with that level of intensity and focus before, but I can guarantee you that making dollar store fat jokes isn't going to help him unlock MVP mode again.
He will find it. Bottom line is that having a few days off in Vegas was the worst possible scenario for Zion going into that Lakers game. He got sucked into the craziness and he payed the price. There are too many of the 16 year old's laughing at him. After that post gme interview, I can tell he understands what is at stake; Vegas was a blessing in disguise.
And it's worth noting - as I have pointed out before - that Zion is getting all the criticism for the LA game, but he was not the only one who was clearly subpar.
BI had 9 points on 30.8% shooting, didn't even take a 3, and had exactly as many TOs and PFs as Zion. Who's mentioning it? Nobody.
CJ had 9 points on 28.6% shooting, only had 2 assists and was a team worst -38. Who's mentioning it? Nobody.
JV, a walking double double, had 3 rebounds and shot 33% from the floor. Who's mentioning it? Nobody.
Even Herb, who at least played good defense at times that game, had 4 fouls, went 0/3 from 3, and was a -22. You aren't hearing people talk about it.
Now some of it - like Herb - you don't expect to hear from big news outlets. Who in New York cares if Herb Jones had a mediocre game? He's not a big name like Zion. But CJ and BI are all-star calibre players. Big names. NBAPA guys. Media figures, in CJ's case. You'd think the fact that they also failed in that game might come up. It doesn't.
Zion's the best player on the team so he needs to lead and his failures do need to be noted, but it's telling how quickly BI and CJ and JV collapsing gets swept under the rug when people think they have the chance to get away with personal, nasty comments about someone. We could be having an interesting discussion about the future of the team and why they had that collapse, but instead we're ignoring the collective team failure because people in the media want to tell fat jokes and some people on this board are completely consumed by an agenda.
The fact that last night's game (a solid B or B- effort) reassured some of you of the potential of his greatness speaks volumes as to his worth.
What? It takes him being raked across the coals from the Atlantic to the Pacific to have him 'show up. How fortunate are we? Where is this kind of effort night in and night out? Shouldn't the Pelicans and their fans deserve at least yesterday's effort on a nightly basis? We all know that the game will get a max effort from Embiid, Giannis, LBJ, Jokic, Luka, Steph, and Tatum every time out. Can you say the same about our guy? If you want to be treated and paid like a superstar...you damned well better play like one.
Last night was a snapshot in time; it doesn't yet erase four years plus of the dispassionate, lackadaisical, careless play by # 1.
DEDENSE...DEFENSE...DEFENSE!!!!
It’s the fact Stephen A doubled down after speaking with the stepfather. You get the feeling even his stepfather wants Zion to knock it off.

I feel for Zion in the sense that nobody has dealt with more abuse from the media, fans (both Pelicans and fans of the player himself) and officials. It’s absolutely shameful how the NBA treats New Orleans basketball athletes and tries to re-route them to other destinations. There is a clear and obvious agenda. My biggest hope for Zion is that he expands his game and takes the hack a Z playbook out of the equation. Stay healthy and keep improving. Don’t get complacent. We have the team. We need him to lead
Nobody is trying to be funny...just calling it AISI....which, heretofore, has been pretty much on point. I'm sorry you can't see it and feel the need to call me out.
Like it or not, for whatever reasons (some of which were pointed out by the National Media this past weekend) he has not lived up to his superstar status and his mega-contract no matter what his fanboys might think has crippled this team. To date, his benefit to my favorite team is more fiction than fact, no matter how much you senselessly call me out.
David Griffin losing patience. Dude needs to shape up now or see the bench again. Possibly be shopped if this keeps up

According to Christian Clark of NOLA.com, the Pelicans have continuously told Williamson he has to work on his diet and conditioning ... but simply put -- he "doesn't listen."
Shaq nailed it. Could be best player in NBA

I know that he pulled up limping after an and one he did late in the 4th. He still finished the game but it hobbled him for a minute.
Per CBS Sports it’s an ankle sprain.

Guess we will get an update in 2 weeks?
This was not some no-contact injury or some off-season injury caused by weight. This is an issue with a clear physical cause that was initiated by someone else that we all saw with our eyes. Kevin Durant is currently missing a game for a similar ankle issue right now.
If this turns into a case of him missing 5 months for it, then you might have a point, but as of right now he's not even out for it, he's questionable for a completely legitimate, reasonable injury that was outside of his control that we all saw happen with our own eyes in real time.
I swear to God, Zion could get Paul Pierce stabbed up and some people on this board would be like ''typical Zion, anything to miss time.'' That's why it comes off as hate.
I don't pay attention to ESPN commentators. I trust my eyes.
I've been following the NBA since 1969. I was at Bernard King's 60 point game (Michael Ray Richardson stole the show for the Nets). I was at Air Jordan's first game at MSG.
I watch every playoff game. I now have NBA League Pass so I can be more selective. I saw the Pelicans' game last night.
I can't imagine what anyone means by "If Zion gets his act together..." Last night was one of greatest games I've ever seen by a player on offense. Rudy Gobert is a 3x Defensive Player of the Year. Minnesota is the top-rated defensive team in the NBA.
Zion missed his first 2 shots, and missed two early in the 3rd quarter. The latter 2 were rebounded by New Orleans and converted to 2nd chance points. Otherwise, Zion did not miss. KAT fouled out. Rudy had to be careful with 4.
Zion made a few nice passes- but that was selfish of him. He just kept attacking one on four, spinning right and left, finishing with ease or getting fouled- or both. The crowd was a little sleepy- he should have been given a long standing ovation.
It was a man playing with boys. One boy might be 7'2", the best shot-blocker on the planet. He had no chance against this man. All Zion needs is a fair NBA whistle.
Thanks for the laugh. That was not even Zions greatest night.Quote:

Nine games does not tell the full story either, of course, and there’s nothing wrong with media and fans demanding more from Williamson considering the immense promise he showed prior to entering the league. But that message won’t get through until Zion looks in the mirror and owns how much his play is preventing him and his team from reaching their full potential.
Quote:
Now that the Pels are back to regular-scheduled programming, there’s nothing more the fan base and people within the organization want to see than Williamson with a chip on his shoulder and on a mission to prove his doubters wrong. If he can turn that mentality into a stretch of destruction, complaints surrounding him and his physical shape will go silent quickly. The Pelicans’ schedule loosens up this month, so a strong response is certainly in the realm of possibility.
But getting there has to start with Williamson internalizing everything that’s come his way the past few days. The fat jokes. The 44-point loss. The people who doubt his commitment. The people who question his skill. All of it.
Because learning how to deal with failure – and channeling it in the right ways – is what separates the true greats from other talented players lost to history. Now, it’s time for Williamson to show how he responds when the entire world is doubting him.
