New to the board and some thoughts on Jimmer...

Firstly, thank you for having me. Secondly, i'm a huge Jimmer believer. Obviously, not all people in life are given the same opportunities. I believe in Jimmer's case, he's simply never been given a great opportunity to succeed in the NBA. Jimmer, IMO, is the best shooter in the world. However, Jimmer is also a great pick and roll player and he's not as bad defensively as people may think. He has an array of moves and shots as well. He can shoot off the dribble at an elite level, so i'm not just talking about spot up shooting.

I hope Jimmer gets a real opportunity.

I was thinking today, the skillset of Jimmer Fredette isn't remarkably different than that of Steph Curry. Steph is a much better passer, better as a ballhandler but not amazing, maybe a little better as a shooter, a slightly better athlete. Inside the arc, similar. Lots of floaters and crafty layups. Defensively, Steph is less limited but still a hider. Steph is a freaking superstar, or near it. Jimmer is an afterthought. But the things that make Steph special, the ability to hit from 25 or 26 feet with relative ease, the ability to nail the off-the-dribble 3 coming off the pick, Jimmer also has. And that's a rare skillset. There are only a few guys in the league who can do what he can do, and they're almost all well paid.

If JJ Reddick can make his weight in the league, so can Jimmer. I think we are gonna go from a team that can barely make 3s to a team that is right there with the Warriors in made 3s, assuming Ryno can stay healthy.

Holiday, Gordon, Rivers, Jimmer, Ryno, Salmons, and Russ Smith can all knock it down from outside. Tyreke can hit clutch shots and AD is working on his range.

Team could really make noise.

I have compared these two a lot, too. One thing stands out more than anything to me...one player gets to play, while the other doesn't.

Sometimes people just don't get to showcase their skills in life, whether it be basketball or any other job. Jimmer has been on a short leash his entire career, knowing that one mistake would send him to the bench - It's very hard to succeed that way.

I'll leave it up to each individual to decide for themselves as to why some people get opportunities and some don't.

I can really see Jimmer resurrecting his career here in NOLA.
Not because what he did in one preseason game, but because many players who have come into the system over the years has gone onto bigger things. (i.e. Belinelli, Morrow and Smith).

I just hope that if Jimmer does take off that we don't lose him like we did with Morrow.

Jimmer and Reddick don't have remotely similar games. They can both shoot and the they are both white but that is about it. Jimmer is a point guard. He is a willing passer with a good feel for the game and can get into the lane and finish. Reddick is pretty much just a shooter/slasher. Reddick took 375 more 3's in college than Jimmer did. Jimmer averaged almost 2 more assist per game.

Jimmer can play. His weaknesses are greatly magnified for some reason. If he gets minutes he will perform.

IMO Jimmer is a much better playmaker for himself and others than Redick.

I don't know about players being "black balled", but some guys aren't given a fair shake and I believe Fredette is one of those individuals.

LOL!!! That's funny! Reddick is taller, quicker, more athletic, better handle, far better defender and has actually shown he can hit his shots at this level. You need to watch more basketball. Jimmer many times couldn't even get the ball across halfcourt with the Kings as his handle was so bad, but you actually have to watch to know that. That isn't on the Kings either that's on his poor handle. Missed open shot after open shot.

I hope for his sake he gets it together and can contribute for NO but comparing him to Reddick is ignorant, foolish and even a bit racist, lumping two white "shooters" together and pretending their game is similar. Also an insult to Reddick.

I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh at the Stephen Curry/Fredette's comparison. I mean Curry is way more explosive and that's why he's such an electrifying player. The guy can shoot but his ball handling, court vision and ability to penetrate are way better than Jimmer's.

Just a friendly reminder, last year Jimmer was with the Bulls under Thibodeau, aka a guy considered as TOP 5 coach in the league, and with a team in a desperate need of a point guard. If Jimmer was really the all-star some here seems to believe he's, why would they've started DJ Augustin and Jimmer got only 7 minutes per game in RS and 0 minute per game in PO ?

Look, I really think Jimmer could be a good role player in the right system but please stop this Steph Curry nonsense.

From what little I have seen of Jimmer, it's his foot speed that holds him back. Talking Vasquez slow. Nonetheless, he will be a valued contributor during an 82 game season for the Pelicans.

I think this is the other side of the Jimmermania coin. You get the overzealous fans AND the ones who want to pee in their cheerios.

I think Jimmer has a great ability to shoot, his poor defense and handle are overblown but are still weaknesses, and his best fit is as a floor spacer for an elite slasher or a dominant big man.

He should be a decent fit for the Pelicans as a kickout target for Reke in the second unit. I guess we will see in the season (why are these games not televised again?)

I'm not a huge Jimmer fan but I think he falls somewhere in the middle. People ripping on him seem just as ridiculous as those who overrate him. He isn't Curry...that is silly...but I doubt he misses shot after shot either or his shooting percentage would be lower. He is a heat check guy without a position. There have been many guys like this who play a lot one night and not much the next. That is why i'm happy we have Russ and are guard heavy. I hope he is a solid guy who can fill in when are numerous injuries occur. That is best case scenario for me.

E: for reals, though, Jimmer is a mediocre ball-handler that is lost when it comes to playing off-ball and doesn't have the physical attributes to play effective defense.

I am excited just to have another shooter on this squad. I almost cried when Morrow left. Dude had passion and could stroke the 3. I hope Jimmer fills the void somewhat

To be fair, Reddick's first few seasons in the league he was considered a borderline bust. It wasn't until later on into his 4th season that he started to shake that label, and really come into his own. He was labeled like many label Jimmer, "Just a shooter". His defense was just good enough to keep him on the court, but it was Van Gundys system and JJ could shoot the lights out so they dealt with it.

I think Jimmer is still young enough to learn some defensive tricks, and Monty might be the coach to develop that part of his game. Time will tell, and we shall see. I certainly hope he does well for this team and we find our Jason Terry/Vinnie Johnson/ Manu type who can dominate in a 2nd unit capacity.

Jimmer mostly plays pg while Reddick plays sg. One plays mostly with the ball while the other plays without. One can guard sg's while the other can't guard pg's or sg's.

Jimmer isn't an off the ball guy who'll space the floor until he's actually used that way and to be used that way he'll have to be able to guard sg's which he can't but Reddick can.

Comparing Jimmer to a dude like Curry is a slap in the face to Curry. Jimmer can barely handle defensive pressure from backup pg's. I bet Reke tools with him in practice.

Jimmer signed with the Bulls for like the last 20 games or so. It isn't like he was with the team for training camp and then got no time. The Bulls were on a run when Jimmer was signed and Augustine was a big part of that run. Jimmer did get to play 30 min one game because Augustine was attending to personal business. He put of 17 on 50% shooting and was +17 in that game. He can play, he can play at a high level. For some reason his mistakes our always under a microscope and he does make some mistakes.

jimmers gonna play 10-15 minutes a night in a backup combo guard role, the sooner you people get that, the better off we'll all be. He'll have some great moments his year hitting some shots and getting us some wins with his play in a reserve role, he will also have some moments where a ball handler blows right by him and makes an easy layup or jumper, having AD and Asik back there to protect the rim will take away some of jimmers defensive problems, that is what this coaching staff is banking on.. outside of jrue we dont really have any average at best defenders in our backcourt, the signing of salmons will help on the wing, but guys like gordon, reke, babbit, ryno..etc.... have all been below average defenders in this league, that is why the Asik signing will be the most important move that new orleans has made since going out and getting ryan anderson. Asik will prove to hide many of our backcourts defensive weaknesses... that is why jimmer will see the court a lot this year, forget the comparisons, forget everything you saw before he got here. we have a different team and a different midset to employ when it comes to jimmers game. hes a better shooter than morrow is, and btw morrow before last year was thought to not even be able to get a job in this league anymore.. the same thing will happen with jimmer. He'll earn himself a four year deal with someone after this season. hopefully we can get him to stay... that being said.... gordons contract will go a long way into doing just that. keeping him...
