The Brooklyn Nets failed to advance out of the first round of the 2013 NBA playoffs, and it now seems the front office will make some major offseason adjustments, starting with the departure of interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo.
According to Rod Boone of Newsday, general manager Billy King informed the coach that he would not return for the 2013-14 season on Sunday afternoon.
After going 35-19 upon inheriting the team from the fired Avery Johnson midway through the 2012-13 campaign, Carlesimo wasn’t able to get it done when it counted most.
The Nets wound up with the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, securing home-court advantage against the Chicago Bulls in the first round.

This is a darn shame. The guy did a great job and fit that team extremely well. That team is, IMO, a mess.

It's not really his fault that the team is about two pieces (or more) away from contention and their payroll is insanely high. They way overpaid for most everyone on that team.

Yeah. Not just that, its identity is flawed. Maybe it's just me, but Deron Williams is not their best player. It's Brooke. They paid Drew Brees-money for a PG that's not even in the top 5 of point guards in the league currently and has poor leadership and attitude issues.

Not surprising. That FO canned Avery half way through the season during the team toughest stretch. They clearly set a presidence of what was expected after all those big contracts were handed out.

I don't understand what the hell Billy King is thinkng with half his moves. Grossly overpaying Wallace and taking on Johnson's awful contract in attempts to replicate what Miami did was beyound idiotic. Firing Avery Johnson? That in itself was questionable. 24 days earlier he had been named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month. At the time he was canned though, the Nets were in the middle of a lousy December; and hadn't done so well under him in his previous two seasons so I'll give him leeway on that. However, Carlisemo went 35-19 and led the team to the playoffs.
Now that Phil Jackson formally turned them down and said he wasn't interested (which they should have gauged this BEFORE deciding to drop Carlisemo), who exactly do the Nets turn to? Jerry Sloan is an appealing option for anyone, but do you honestly think he wants a thing to do with Deron Williams again? Outside of that, you got Nate McMillan (who wouldn't be a horrible option), Larry Brown and a various mix of retreads and unestablished commodities.
My point is; Carlisemo should have got a second year. -

That is why you dont trade for superstars. You either draft them, or you steal them in free agency. Some teams have gotten away with murder (the Lakers in years past), but not many have succeeded

If you have a cap friendly situation, and you have the resources to trade for said star go for it. Some teams screw themselves financially, and get trapped.
