If you could change the name of the Hornets franchise what would you change it too?
Only Rule: You can't be the Jazz. I can't see that ever happening again with the way the NBA works
My ideas:
- Voodoo
- Cajuns
- Hurricanes
- Gamblers
- Blackjacks

New Orleans Brass
A name I was against is now a name I'm in favor of ... HH's Buccaneers. It's our first professional basketball team name, and it works for our region.
One of things we learned when we first got the Hornets was that there are not a lot of good names out there. For example: Thunder. :hihi:
Here is a name for the original members of the board: NEONIGHTS!!! :hihi:
I like the name Hornets and I like Hugo (and The Bees, The Buzz, The Hive, The Honeybees, The Used To Bees, "BEE-FENSE" and all the other nicknames that go with it). And I think the fans and New Orleanians overall have embraced them as well.
I've always been in favor of a name change, (even though I've grown to accept and like the Hornets name)Quote:

I have to disagree with that assessment.Quote:

They even brought back the pinstripes. :hihi:
But, we have no idea if Chouest cares for the name as is, likes Teal, or would want to break from it's past. I assume he would, I think if you got a chance to own a franchise then you would want to put your mark on it.
What happened to the Sonics in OKC should have happened to the Hornets in New Orleans. Shinn was too tied to the colors and name, so we have been stuck with it. We never got the chance to enjoy a name the team or pick the colors contest. I felt they did more in OKC to identify with that city than they did here.
Hornets has grown on me.
However, if a really good local-flavored nickname was to come up, I'd be in favor of the name change as part of a complete fresh start for this team.
But all of the local nicknames I've heard so far just seem forced just to be local. In my opinion that is the worst thing we could do. Force a terrible name on this team just because it's "local flavor".
So unless something comes along that knocks our socks off, I'd rather stay Hornets.
I don't. I think the name has been embraced after all these years. A name change in the beginning was needed and should have been done, but an identity has been garnered IMO.Quote:

If a change of name was mandatory how about:
New Orleans Gumbo
New Orleans Spice
New Orleans Zydeco
New Orleans Pelicans
Krewe of New Orleans
New Orleans Angels
Mardi Gras Mambo
New Orleans Lagniappe
And Voodoo, Brass, or Jesters would be awesome too if we could get the rights to the names.
NEONIGHTS! ;)
I like
- Soul
- Blues
- Trumpets
- Buccaneers
- Brass
I'm hesitant to start playing the game until the sale rumors are confirmed and Chouest expresses an interest in rebranding. For all I know he might actually like the name and the awful teal... which would make me cry.
Soul or Blues
why even commentQuote:

Either Buccannears or we blackmail Utah into giving us back our Jazz.
New Orleans Bourbons ?
Weren't plenty of locals called Bourbons back in the civil war days ? Old name descended from France
Bourbons referred to a conservative businessman planter group in Louisiana. I believe.
New Orleans Big Daddies?
