    Rotation and minutes

Inspired by the Rivers vs. Roberts thread, I wanted to see if I could figure out a way to allocate minutes for an eight man rotation. I don't believe we'd play 9-12 players in the playoff - if everyone was healthy and foul trouble wasn't an issue.

So, give me your playoff rotation with allotted minutes. Here's mine:

    QUARTER 1 & 3 QUARTER 2 & 4

    Time: 12 - 6 6-3 3 - 0 12 - 6 6-3 3 - 0

    PG J. Holiday J. Holiday J. Holiday T. Evans J. Holiday J. Holiday

    SG E. Gordon T. Evans T. Evans E. Gordon E. Gordon E. Gordon

    SF A. F. Aminu A. F. Aminu A. Morrow A. Morrow T. Evans T. Evans

    PF A. Davis R. Anderson R. Anderson R. Anderson R. Anderson R. Anderson

    C J. Smith A. Davis A. Davis J. Smith A. Davis A. Davis

    6 minutes 3 Minutes 3 minutes 6 minutes 3 minutes 3 minutes

    A. Davis 36

    E. Gordon 36

    J. Holiday 36

    R. Anderson 36

    T. Evans 30

    J. Smith 24

    A. F. Aminu 18

    A. Morrow 18

I like your 8 man rotation but I don't think Anderson would play 36 minutes off the bench. No more than 32 mins for someone coming off the bench I think. In a playoff series I would go with a 9 man rotation; with Stiemsma only playing a few minutes for foul trouble or to give fouls.

    Starting 5
    PG: Jrue
    SG: Gordon
    SF: Aminu
    PF: Anderson
    C: Davis

    total 240 mins:

    Davis 39 (39 mins C)
    Gordon 36 (36 mins SG)
    Jrue 35 (35 mins PG)
    Anderson 35 (35 mins PF)
Tyreke 32 (19 mins SF, 13 mins PG)
    Aminu 21 (21 mins SF)
Morrow 20 (12 mins SG, 8 mins SF)
    Smith 18 (13 mins PF, 5 mins C)
    Stiemsma 4 (4 mins C)

I like this rotation. The only qualm I might have with it is the fact that AD's minute count is so high. That might be disadvantageous in late-game situations depending on how his minutes are distributed. But I understand your thinking, given the fact that this is a hypothetical playoffs rotation and core players generally receive an uptick in minutes.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

Your best player plays the most minutes in the playoffs. Davis doesn't need to be the primary scorer, but he has to be on the floor as much as possible defensively and to rebound. He has the toughest task playing all his minutes at center but he would have to step up and play heavy minutes there.
