I am sure this will upset Cousins. After all the goodwill that we gained in handling him after the trade and then we cut his good friend after one game.

you would like to think there is more to this than meets the eye....
"we might make dollars, but we don't necessarily make sense"
"always be sincere....whether you mean it or not"
Kings can sign him in free agency. But they can't sign him now.
And Pondexter hasn't been waived, because he is under contract for next season. Now whether he actually plays again in a Pels uniform remains to be seen, but I guess the Pels are hoping he will.
I doubt we'd go thorugh all this, with Cousins being someone who values loyalty and is already quite cognizant to two faced snake in the grassery...that I'm hoping we talked it out with all parties and this was a mutually agreed upon move.
Part that really bothers me is bringing back Reggie Williams. I hardly even remember him doing anything when he was here.
Him and that 3pt "specialist" from D-League who had a great physical profile, but couldn't make baskets.
As MM pointed out, bird rights only matter if the Pels plan to operate over the cap. Maybe Pels don't plan on doing so. Not a huge deal. Only thing that maybe matters here is that it could upset Cousins, but I'm sure he understands the move given the fact that Casspi is about to be a FA and we wanted a healthy body for a playoff push.
Pelicans will incur the full $2.9m cap hit but only responsible for $906k of his salary (unless claimed). https://t.co/BkzYpS5jXS

It's entirely possible they chatted with Omri, he informed them he won't be resigning, and so they let him go. Bird rights don't matter then

This is a bad move. Through and through.
@DanielVeuleman
Thornton is a friend of D.C to come to think of it.
And the Pels can't sign him either if he happens to be a free agent in a few weeks, right? This whole re-signing players you waive or trade deal is confusing? I mean there was talk about the Pels re-signing Lance Stephenson. How is that OK? Is it something about his contract not being guaranteed?
Y'all are overreacting.
1. Caspi is getting ALL of his money
2. I'm sure they discussed this with D.C.
3. Pelicans CAN resign him when/if he's healthy if he clears waivers
4. They can use exemptions on Caspi if they have to over the summer
For all we know Caspi will stick around NOLA and hang with D.C. while he gets healthy.
The Mavs have struck 10-day deals with Ben Bentil AND Quinn Cook, according to league sources

Like I said, for one good move he makes plenty of bad ones. We are not better than the other teams fighting for 8
I disagree with you often but this is exactly right. People are so quick to complain because they don't have even 50% of the whole story. We have no idea what discussions with Casspi were like. Is a guy who could not get any playing time this year and was often injured really going to command more than our trade exception this summer? I don't believe so.
Also it makes sense to not cut a QPon because he is owed money next year. We might still be trying to move him this summer to clear that cap. Casspi is owed nothing going forward and wont command much this summer.
Did we really *need* to cut him? Probably not, but I can see their side of wanting as many able bodies as possible to get in here.
We have had decent luck finding people from the d league, with BDJ and ennis. We should scrounge to find some talent.

Before making his debut on Thursday night with the Sacramento Kings, former New Orleans Pelicans guard Buddy Hield took a slight shot at his former team regarding the way Coach Alvin Gentry utilized him in his rotation.
''You know in New Orleans sometimes I'd play the first quarter and play the third quarter and I don't see the second or fourth,'' Hield told reporters that was videotaped by the Sacramento Bee. ''It was inconsistent at times.
I absolutely hated how Hield NEVER got run in the 4th. But it's over now.
I don't understand this move at all.
