    Will the next owner hire better doctors or trainers what is it with players on this team.

    The "ping pong balls" represent the number of "chances" that we have in the NBA draft lottery. The worse our record is, the more "ping pong balls" we have, and as such, the higher our draft pick will likely be.

    In the lottery, 14 `ping pong balls' are entered into a hopper, numbered 1-14. 4 are drawn without replacement. There are 1001 ways this can happen.

    1 way leads to a redo, the other 1000 lead to someone in the lottery getting the top draft pick. Each team is assigned X of the 1000 combinations, where X varies by team according to the draft position.

    After the selection, the process is repeated, but any combination assigned to the winning team leads to a redo. The selected team is the second pick.

    Again for the third but the first two selections leading to a redo.

    It is common for people to just talk about more ping pong balls instead of more combinations since it is likely more fun and easier to think about. It's valid as a metaphor, but it's not an accurate model of reality.

    The cool was the explanation for the person with the question, not an endictment of those choosing to partake in slang, which I do in many respects. No issues here, Pilot.
