The recent signing of Chevron as a Crescent City Champion seems to have attracted the attention of the media, at least in this NBA-news-starved market. It should. As I said elsewhere, their sponsorship is, in the end, a high-dollar vote of confidence in the fans' support of the team, at least during the duration of the deal.
Between the $4m increase in sponsorhip money and the offloading of Marcus Banks, that's and $8m swing . . . for someone dropping $300m+ on a team, that goes a long way to making sure you get the return sought. A long way. Of course, we'll likely spend that Marcus Banks $4m on a player, but hopefully such a move will yield dividends both on and off the court.
Hoops Karma has a bit of a rant on Stern and his relationship with New Orleans over at Opposing Views. Isn't it nice to be looked at as the pet team, or at least pet city? Even if he is a little snotty about this, especially in relation to the Sonics, it's nice to read.
