Is that a joke? Are you suggesting the NBA would do something to allow CP3 to win a title here? That's crazy talk.Originally Posted by Saints Fan in A

it's not a fine, it's a taxOriginally Posted by Saints Fan in A
and technically, cp3 is why we'd be over the luxury tax (his salary raises about $10M next year). posey is also a reason why
The luxury tax isnt the salary cap. Luxury tax isat about 72 milllion.Originally Posted by Saints Fan in A

so you think having a low end rookie contract would sink the Hornets? are you really trying to debate this?
we sell chandler to save $10M and can't afford to take on $1MOriginally Posted by NIH
makes sense
Because we didnt need to cut 11 mil to stay out of the luxury, all we needed to cut was around 5 mil or so.Originally Posted by HornetHaven

this trade goes beyond staying under the luxury tax. this trade was made to save a lot of money. some of the saving is no luxury tax payments. most is pure salary
I think some of us forget about "team defense." OK, so what if Wilcox is a defensive beast, neither was Chandler this year. That why other players pick up the slack and play team defense. That includes hustling for rebounds, helping out miss-matches, contesting shots etc. I forgot what else I as going to say here....erk
And who with a $5M salary could we have scrapped? And if we were up against the cap and the cap went down, like it looks like it will, how brilliant is that?Originally Posted by stbviper22
Point taken. Either way, how else would we have gotten under that threshold?Originally Posted by stbviper22
Once again more guessing. You cant just guess where players will go. Wilcox might like it here and want to stay for cheap. Him and smith may give us a boost in the playoffs and we go to the conference finals, you never know.Originally Posted by HornetHaven
we're already above the salary capOriginally Posted by Saints Fan in A
kwame brown got $4M last yearOriginally Posted by stbviper22
you think wilcox is going to play for the vet min to stay in nola? seriously?
Cause the NBA doesn't want certain players to be on a bigger stage...okay...Originally Posted by HORNETSFAN
Watch the games and not a simulator. Chandler's defensive presence is his value, not the difference between 8 and 12 points a game. Hilton is not a defensive presence because he gets manhandled and is lazy. Wilcox is a decent offensive presence, but not a defender as he gets pushed around as well. So, if you are asking me would I rather have Chandler or Wilcox/Smith, it is a definitive yes!Originally Posted by kidjock
What a crap sports day. First, Deuce is cut, now this... Chandler was definitely not contributing the way he was last year and two years ago. But geez....Chris Wilcox??? This sucks. Money dump. Pure and simple.
Or basically, not signed anybody, right? Would a better player for the MLE have made a difference cap wise? Or should we have stood pat with the team we had last year? No improvement? Please, enlighten me.Originally Posted by HornetHaven
People still haven't realized we will be left with Devon Hardin and some cap space form this trade.
People keep confusing the cap and the luxury tax. The luxury tax limit is around $71 million and we would have been about $76 million. That is a $5 million penalty (still nothing to sneeze at).Originally Posted by Saints Fan in A

You're right, a few times. My bad on confusing it, but you're also right...$5M is nothing to sneeze at. In this economy, $5M is real money. Rich teams like the Redskins are laying people off. It's a different day.Originally Posted by HORNETSFAN
