I think Morrow is still out there saying "sign me! sign me!"
Quin Cook has signed with the Hawks on a 2 year partially guaranteed deal.
Oh goody. Now if he has an above average game, we'll get threads like "Oh, look how bad we are for not taking him!"
Letting go Cook and Toupane allowed us to sign Clark. Clark is a player with championship experience.
At that time it was the easiest way to clear some space. And upgrade.
August 31st is approaching. Before then (stretching deadline) you will hear one or two Pelicans moves.
Maybe some camp invites.
I agree with MM that Ajinca may be bought out.
Ajinca can get minimum somewhere. or around 1 million in Europe.
he is owed 10.2 million $
He may agree for 7-8 millions to free himself.
Pels will stretch him for 1,5-1,7 millions.
and will clear room for two minimum guys. or Dante for little more than minimum.
problem with this thinking is that Pels won't leave themselves almost any flexibility for the season.
This is why Asik might be the best solution.
Problem with Asik is that it looks that
1. dumping him costs a ton (picks, other bad long-term contracts)
2. he probably don't want to agree for a discount buyout
IMO there is not a big difference between not stretching him now and having him with two years left and 15 millions dollars (stretching for 5 years costs us 3 millions per year, stretching him now is 3,5 millions per 7 years). I mean waiting a year won't give us a better chance to dump him cheaper...
Also Dell is fighting for his present.
there is financial difference, I agree
but assuming Asik will remain a Pelican - he won't play single minute this year. and to dump even his 15 millions you will have to use first round pick...
personally I would stretch Asik, remain with Ajinca for a year. remain flexible with our pick
sign Dante and a wing (type Dunleavy) for one season
remain out of tax - and use pick to upgrade around the deadline or around the draft

Who is our backup center if we move Ajinca? Asik? Ahhahahahahahahahhahaha hahahahahahahahahhahaahahah. Ahahahahahahah
Trading Ajinca just creates another hole we have to fill.
Our best hope is Asik stays "sick" and doesn't play this year so we can file for medical retirement and he can be removed from our books just like Bosh.
^ Man that's just wrong.
Assuming they eat 70 minutes that still leaves 26 minutes for other bigs. That's a lot of minutes for just some guy off the street.
Assuming Diallo gets the PF minutes, that's still 12-14ish for a center and that's BEFORE any injury. If AD or Cousins misses even a small amount of time I wouldn't want to rely on just a random minimum guy we just picked up.

I want Jahlil Okafor as our backup. He's cheap and an upgrade over Ajinca. Ajinca, Q and a 2nd gets it done.
Ajinca.Q.and first maybe. So thank you...
As to center.
We are assuming that AD/DMC will play all center minutes. When healthy.
The rest PF minutes will go to Diallo. Hill and Dante (hopefully). Enough bodies for 28 minutes. Also Miller was supposed to play a little there.
If any of AD-DMC combo will be injured we can play small ball with more minutes for Diallo, Hill and Dante.
If AD and DMC wont play - you may target ICE Diaw, Lee or Zeller for minimum
Also MM mentioned fair trade proposal.
One year of Trevor Booker for Asik and first.
In that case we wont need Dante.
Booker might take backup PF minutes
And at what point You will agree to give up first?
Booker is a vet. Also expiring vet.
I like it better than 7 years of 3.5 millions of dead salary.
3,5 millions this year were combined Clark and Miller deals...
Cole Aldrich and a 2nd for Asik and top 5 protected 1st.
Dell pretty much prefers to pay early 2nd rounders. We wont have the money for another 1st next season with the signing of Cousins.
Thibs is familiar with Asik.
Who says no?
