Really good read on a weird play Monty ran for Morrow.
I love it. I think there's so much innovation possible in basketball. You can thank us for getting you that contract Morrow.
LOL I never paid attention to what Anthony was doing, hopefully Jimmer can get that play run for him.
Morrow hit only 2 shots from those plays.
Hopefully Jimmer can hit more.
This play could be money for Jimmer. He's so small, he could lose his defender every time.
We're not the only ones who have run that. The first I actually remember seeing that play ran was by the Heat with Ray Allen.
As the article says we didn't really use the full "hug" part of the play until Morrow became more of a focal point of the offense due to injuries (it is so nice seeing a writer give credit to the amount of Pelicans injuries). Now that our primary three point threats are either ball dominant guards or big men I wonder if we still see this play. Jimmer may be the only spot p three point specialist but I doubt Monty is planning on him getting enough minutes to run this play with enough regularity to even trust our squad to run it correctly.
Morrow missing some of those examples isn't the point. As a coach you try to design plays to get players shots they can hit. This illustrated Monty's resourcefulness (or willingness to adapt from the Allen play as suggested above) in his offensive schemes. Nearly all of us criticize aspects of his game, but his offensive sets have always seemed good to me.
As an aside, and I don't mean to sound negative, but I think articles and threads like this are so valuable. They can bring to light the actual game itself and how our team plays. This is the real substance of basketball. Yet the thread about a former player of our team who never played a game for us not understanding McNemara's tweet has double the replies. The threads where people pick their teams, or argue over opinions get a billion replies, yet content like this, which is the actual x's and o's on how our team plays, gets ignored. Again, fandom's what it is and there isn't some 'right way' to be a fan, I just wanted to illustrate that there seems to be a disconnect between how the game is played, and how people discuss the game.
I think this permeates itself throughout human society in general, it's not fan based reactions. The news for example is more sensationalist and people want to know all the gossip about celebrities etc., but often more relevant news pertaining to their actual lives may not get the attention unless it's a hugely drastic change.
Seems to be the way human nature works, people want style over substance, but want the results of substance over style.
This play is just hilarious, but also genius.
Also.....
I can't picture Eric Gordon hugging anyone. (perhaps never got hugged as a child)
With me being out of town (I live in Frisco,Tx which is north DFW) I always get the NBA League Pass to watch all Pelicans games. I may start putting together small videos like this when I find time throughout this season to get more technical aspects of the game discussed here. I really really really enjoyed that article.
