Top 10 Players (any position) for 2014-15

My list is below. I considered putting Harden on there and considered Marc Gasol. Probably could have put Blake Griffin or Kevin Love, Dirk or Duncan. It's not easy to make this list. What's your take? Do you have a top 10?

    1. LeBron
    2. Durant
    3. Davis
    4. Paul
    5. Kobe
    6. Melo
    7. Howard
    8. Lillard
    9. Curry
    10. Leonard

I thought I liked Westbrook more than anyone else until I started seeing him over Durant on these lists.

While I don't think it's the craziest thing to think that Davis will be the third best player in the league this upcoming season, I don't think he is, if I'm being objective. I think he is very very good and maybe if he takes another leap he'll be there but has he even been undoubtedly the best player on team USA? I think that putting Westbrook ahead of Durant is even crazier than that though and I feel like I defend Westbrook a lot. And even crazier than either of those are people thinking Kobe is still a top ten player in the league. I've been able to appreciate how Kobe has adapted his game over time and just how tough and competitive he is but he is coming off of two very serious injuries long after his prime. If there's a ever a guy to prove the doubters wrong it's him but wow, it makes me wonder if anyone's been paying any attention the last couple years. It's also difficult to take a list seriously if it's asking for a top ten, you fill out five and misspell "LeBron".

For me, I can't rank in order because I think that there's too many variables that turn it into a game of comparing apples to oranges but I would separate by tiers.

    Tier one:
    Lebron and Durant

    Tier two:
Curry, Howard, Aldridge, Nowitsky, Melo, Rose (maybe...hopefully), Paul, Griffin, Westbrook, Irving, Davis, Love, Gasol, Lillard, Parker, Duncan, Leonard, Wall

    Tier three:
Horford, Lopez, Millsap, Wade, Bosh, Randolph, Noah, DeRozan, Holiday, Rondo, Ginobli, Teague, Thompson

There are probably one or two I missed on Tier two and plenty more you could throw into the three. The further you get down the more nebulous it becomes.

    why durant over duncan?

I think the thing for kobe says more about his position than anything else. The 2 and 3 are so thin now that apart from the top 2 or 3, there isn't a huge lot of talent. That's how Wade Kobe Pierce etc, still rank as top 10 at their position because the alternatives aren't that great. Granted Kobe was still playing at a decent level before injuries so we'll see

OK. I recognize Kobe was listed way too high. I am so used to him being superior and I guess I'm not thinking clearly about him. He'll still do well but, it's true, we will see 14-16ppg and less athleticism.

Leonard is way too high on this list and for whatever reason, people understate how good Melo and Love really are.
The most overused words on Pelicansreport.com. Wrongly, I might add.

ELITE - (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

GREAT - notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding

These words should not be used lightly

LOL @ Lillard being a top 10 player

For me I factored in production. Love IMO will see a huge "Bosh-like" dipped in production as he drops to perhaps the third option on offense and joins a team with other great rebounders. As for Anthony I struggled to rank him. Great offense still, but wavers on defense and he couldn't get the Knicks to the playoffs in an all time down year for the Eastern conference.

As far as Leonard as I've said before I'm sold. I think the Spurs will lean on him a lot more. By years end I think he's the best player on the a top 3 team in the West. May have too much faith too soon, but the guy was the best player at the highest level just 3 months ago.

Yeah as you can see he doesn't make my top 25 list. Good offense is offset by bad defense. You have to be elite offensively like Harden and Love to get by on offense alone.

If we are "hopeful" then Rose goes in Tier 1.
