Thread: Al Jefferson

    Al Jefferson

He's a good rebounder 9.2rpg and scorer 17.8ppg. He's also from Monticello MS so he could play his home games close to family and friends. At 28 he is in his prime.

We need low post offensive threat so he's definitely under our radar with Pekovic/Hickson.

I just wanted to tell you, there's been a lot of threads about FAs.

Iggy would be number one target.

    But Jefferson would be 1a.

    I'd love Jefferson.

The only concern I have from him is his awful defense. Lopez might actually be the better defender.

Not a good fit next to Davis defensively and he's going to want way more than I'd pay.

He's great if you ask me.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

Yes. Lets all want Al Jefferson at 28 but Iggy is unquestionably too old at 29. . .

There's no "might" about it. Lopez is actually capable of help defense.

"There are two ends of the floor?" Al Jefferson asked with much consternation.

i dont think al jefferson is that terrible at defense but maybe thats just me, there is no perfect player, if u want his low post offense, size, rebounding, and want him to be defensive well those are once in a life time players, meet tim duncan.

He provides no help defense. None. He just can't do it. Not that he is below average at it. He just doesn't do it. In isolation situations against power post players, he holds his own. Quicker bigs give him fits.

People are calling him old because he's such an athletic player and in a couple of years he won't be as good as Jefferson will be.
    Welcome to be here

    No.

Our biggest problem last season was defense and you want to bring in one of the worst defensive players in the league?

Look, he's adequate from the post but if people were tearing their eyes out when watching Vasquez and Lopez try to defend a ball screen, then you better get ready for Al Jeff. The guy is just clueless in one of the most used play types in the league.

Hypothetically, if we were to draft Porter and Pek re-signs with the Twolves would you want Jefferson?

I want no part of Jefferson and the contract he gets. He is not a good fit for this team. He would be an overall upgrade from Lopez, but is not someone I want here.

It's just you. He's one of the worst defenders in the league that is a high level starter.

I would love for him to be our center. He would be perfect next to a defensive big like Anthony Davis. He can score in the post and is efficient at it. The one knock on him is his defense, but with someone like AD next to him to take that pressure off of him would be beneficial. With him being an unrestricted free agent and from close by in Mississippi, he may be the most likely to come here out of the somewhat big time free agents. He has been at the top of my list since we got AD and I knew he would be a free agent. Also we might be better off signing a big time free agent this year than next year cause we most likely get them to come up for another contract at the same time as AD and others. I hope he is one of a couple guys we try to go after for sure.

AD is not ready to cover for both our perimeter players and big Al.

I don't see how you can compare two guys at different positions and have two totally different play styles.

Although I love the argument that Iggy is SO athletic that he will get worse. What about less athletic people that get older? I just find it funny the difference between 28 and 29 is love and hate.

Makes me scared that I turn 28 this year. My wife will hate me next. . .

His team played better defense when he was on the bench.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

I think we do need an upgrade at the 5 spot. We have spoken at length about PG play on this board. I think there was one glaring problem we had last season that if we dont fix it we will be in the lottery again. Rebounding. We were terrible at it. Not saying Al is the answer just mentioning the need...

  25. #25
I understand we need an upgrade at 5 (more than the 1) but Jefferson is not the answer. If you have GV and Jefferson on the court at the same time; your other 3 guys will be pulling double duty, and guys that are great defenders don't tend to have much offensive game (at least not the variety that we would be able to get on our team).
