NBA Las Vegas Summer League tweaks format to crown a champion

NEW YORK -- When participating teams take the court in Las Vegas this summer for the 2013 NBA Summer League, a championship will be on the line. For the first time since the league's inception in 2004, NBA Summer League will feature a format that includes preliminary games followed by a single-elimination tournament leading to an eventual champion.

The schedule tips off on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas on Friday, July 12, and will conclude with a championship game on Monday, July 22. All participating teams will play a minimum of five games. After the conclusion of games of July 16, all participating teams will be seeded for single-elimination tournament play that will result in a champion being crowned on July 22.

I doubt AD plays, but AR will tear it up

This is a good idea. Glad the NBA did this it'll make things significantly more entertaining.

Nothing worse than these preseason preseason games. At least a championship being on the line could make for better basketball.

Darius Miller is the only person I see playing. Rivers needs work in the gym not game experience. He got a lot of that game experience this year. Time to work on mechanics and conditioning.

I think Rivers is expected to play a few games at point during summer league, that's what I took away from his recent interview anyway. I think the idea of him working on his mechanics and conditioning is something that should coincide with him playing in SL. As it seems logical that playing in SL would provide Austin with the greatest opportunity for him to develop, opposed to him just specifically working out on those two aforementioned areas. But eh ill be watching anyway.

    0% chance Davis plays.

He will be participating in a team USA Mini-Camp though.
