NBA Suns to hire Jeff Hornacek as head coach

Jeff Hornacek has agreed in principle to become the next head coach of the Phoenix Suns, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

Hornacek, who had a 14-year career as an NBA player and recently served as an assistant with the Utah Jazz, will sign a three-year deal as early as Sunday night to join the Suns, according to sources.

The 50-year-old Hornacek also had interviewed for the vacant Charlotte Bobcats head coaching job. However, the Suns began negotiating a deal Sunday with Hornacek, who has maintained a home in the Phoenix area.

A fan favorite as a Suns player, Hornacek will attempt to help Phoenix rebound from one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

Very smart choice, and my 2nd favorite NBA coach. Fun guy, I will be rooting for him.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

He was one of my favorite players growing up. The only Jazz player I've ever liked.

Any inclinations as to how this affects the #5 pick?

Maybe you see them move a big or two in order to make a play for a better pg.

This is a smart move by Phoenix in several ways.

Hornacek is a smart mind, and was ready to become a head coach. It's his time. Between his coaching and Ryan McDonough's eye for talent, this franchise may finally be at a point where they're ready to get back to where they were not too long ago, as a playoff contender.

Most of all however, this will be a move the Phoenix fans will get behind. A LARGE portion of them were infuriated after the team named Hunter the interim instead of giving Dan Majerle the job. Hornacek was a crowd favorite when he played for the Suns, so this will definitely appease to them.

What? Why would their plan be to upgrade one of only 2 positions where they have starting NBA caliber talent? Dragic is their best player, this makes no sense at all

I meant trading a guard for a big. They have Marshall, Dragic, Dudley, etc. that's a logic talent to move and get help.

Ok, that makes now. I doubt they trade Dragic, but Dudley could fetch them something decent IMO.
