Thread: Burke "I"m hearing between #2 and #6"

  1. #1

Draft Burke "I"m hearing between #2 and #6"

“I'm hearing anywhere from two to six,” he said Wednesday on the “Huge Show” syndicated across Michigan, identifying the two teams – Orlando and New Orleans – needing a point guard. “That's pretty much everything I'm hearing now. It's really a toss up and up in the air. So I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next month or so.”

But Burke should feel good about the top six. New Orleans kind of seems like a perfect fit for him.

We are the perfect fit for him. After his season, and especially his tourny performance I just don't see how anyone doesn't want this kid as our PG of the future. He's got the it factor too. Not many players have that.

Don't be surprised if Detroit jumps up from 8 to get him.

What assets do they have to move up in the draft? They already owe Charlotte a 1st because of the Ben Gordon trade last year. They aren't giving up Monroe or Dummond, so what do they have?

One last thing, there is a team ahead of us that may be willing to do it: Phoenix. They need bodies and they have only picks in the draft. They can get a good player at 8 and then 3 second round picks. I am just saying, more teams want Burke than just us. And potentially the guy they could want in Bennett or Zeller will still be there

  10. #10
Well I guess it's good news that we'll for sure pick him if he's on the board. I don't see him being there though.

They just signed dragic and drafted Marshall../

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

They've already traded their 1st in this draft to Charlotte, but it was lottery protected so I don't think you can trade the same pick twice? I could be wrong, but here's the protection on the pick:
Sources told ESPN.com the first-round pick going to Charlotte is lottery-protected in 2013, top-eight protected in 2014, top-one protected in 2015 and unprotected in 2016.

Yeah, Phx is terrible but them trading down and taking Knight doesn't make them any better. Knight is just terrible

I agree. Would love to have Burke or Oladipo.

I hope the Magic take him, would rather Schroeder/Oladipo/McLemore/trading down.

I don't like the idea of a smallish, mildly athletic PG with below average lateral agility and defense. I realize his lateral agility measured similarly to Chris Paul's and the like, but watch the tape and you'll see the true measure.

He can shoot, he has instincts, he doesn't turn it over. I'm not going to say he has "it" because I don't know what that means, people posit their own subjective interpretations into "it" so I won't bother.

He's not a good defender, he's small (with a good wingspan to be fair), he's got solid straight line speed but he isn't especially quick, especially for his size. To me he's a top 15 PG in his prime, which is fine, but even in this draft, I believe we can do better.

Fair enough, but was exactly does Schroeder do better than Burke?

No chance. The Suns need a star, not depth. While this draft is considered weak, I still think there's a good chance you can draft a stud at #5. At #8? Not really.

Oh and 2nd round picks in this draft are worthless.

Superior size and length, superior athleticism (both straight ahead and especially quickness), operates well out of the pick and roll and has good vision (like Burke), changes speed and plays to pace well (like Burke, but his athleticism lets him do it at a higher level, although Burke might have the advantage in pure "feel" at this time). He isn't the shooter Burke is, but his ridiculous (albeit unrepeatable) 3 point shooting numbers point to potential in that area.

Where the difference is most noticeable by far is on the defensive side; Schroeder has terrific lateral movement, fantastic length, and gets into the jersey of the ball-handler at every opportunity. Couple that with his craftiness, and the oft-thrown around comparison to Rondo begins to seem more legitimate by the day. It's why he already got his lotto promise; individual workouts will move him up, probably right around our range.

Already got a lotto promise? This early in the game? That does not sound right. I would not imagine teams would be giving out promises yet would they?

This does not mean anything is guaranteed? It is simply what he is "hearing." Very subjective. The Pelicans have not made any decisions yet.

Yeah but he hasn't done so against the quality of players Burke have. There reasons to be optimistic about Schroeder, but I see no reason to have him higher than Burke.

I'm not speaking from a privileged position or anything, but he did go to the combine with the intention to workout only to develop a sudden "toothache" which kept him out.

Ford and the like strongly suspect a lotto promise. I tend to agree.

Lol at some guys here thinking long, athletic guards with no skills like mcw and shroeder can be succesfull in this league. Bball iq, shooting, pg instincts > length and athletacism for a pg. i swear if paul and livingston were in the same draft most of u would select livingston.

I guess we will see if he starts declining workouts.

Agreed, but the Nike Hoops Summit, at the very least, let him showcase how well his athleticism could translate to the American game(yes high schoolers, but the top high schoolers in the nation).

Burke is more proven, I agree. But I think you always draft with potential in mind this high in the lotto. And Schroeder exudes it.
