    He's a PF not a SF.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

There's no way Cleveland passes on Porter unless they get a top 2 pick. Even then, There are rumblings around saying Cleveland believes Porter to be the #2 player in the draft.

Offensively, he can, but the question is can he defend NBA SF's. I'm not sure the answer is yes, and he can't answer those questions at the combine because he just had surgery.

That's due to his rare skillset. You'll rarely ever find a freshman who has NBA post moves and footwork with his range. Not to mention his athleticism and smooth/fluid game. If he plays in the league as 3, he's going to fail. He's a post big with range. More than a stretch 4 and more than just a low post big. That's rare.

Last college freshmen I remember who had refined post skills before Bennett was Zach Randolph when he came to Michigan State. He and J-Rich led that Spartans team to a Final Four the year after the school won the title with Cleeves, Eric Snow, and Mo-Pete.

I agree, but if anyone can fix his defensive deficiencies, Monty can.

Yeah, but the problem is more of a lack of foot speed, rather than just not knowing how to defend. I was hoping he'd post a good lane agility time at the combine which would give us a better idea of his quickness, but he isn't participating....

I was mainly talking about his overall defense than his quickness. From the film I've watched I was very disappointed with his motor and overall defensive abilities. I don't think he will ever be a good defender, I just think Monty can at least make him an average one. The guy has skills on offense.

It would be nice if he had the athletic tools to defend the 3, but he wasn't using him because he was so focused on offense, or maybe his college coach doesn't stress defense. That is fixable with the right coach, and Monty could hopefully bring that out of him if we were to go that route. He is an intriguing prospect for sure.

i'm feeling expression-fatique on this particular expression. Has Monty actually turned ANYONE into a defensive
specialist that was previously a defensive laggard?

i'm yet to see it, but everyone swears by his ability to produce the "best D eva!"

Rivers turned out decent defensively after being viewed as a huge liability on that end.

Umm... Jason Smith? Lopez improved, Davis improved, Rivers improved greatly, Marco Belinelli improved when he was here, Aminu has improved, Lance Thomas has improved. So yeah, I'd say he helped people improve. The problem is that he doesn't have a lot of serious talent yet, at least not refined talent. If we had veteran players who understood the game, our team would be a lot better. Monty still needs to teach the guys so much. It's going to take time.

I think he is more Larry Johnson with a jumper than Josh Smith and its not because he is from UNLV.
We want more! We want more!

Draft Can Anthony Bennett Play the 3?

A guy we haven't touched on much in draft discussions for the Pels is UNLV's Anthony Bennett. Most see him as a talented tweener--a little undersized for the 4 a little too big for the 3. But watching some of his college tape he looks to have the skill set to play the wing, with the added versatility to slide down the block depending on match-ups. Moreover, we really lack a guy you can dump it down to who can score with his back to the basket. Bennett wasn't at the combine after shoulder surgery and isn't supposed to do any pre-draft workouts either. He's listed at 6'8" 240, which is big for a wing but not that different from LeBron or Karl Malone or, for that matter, Harrison Barnes, all of whom slide between SF and PF. I've read that his defense is suspect and he's had just one year in college, but I wonder if his versatility would tempt the Pels brain trust?

If they think he can play the 3 I'm all for it. Just don't drag it out like the Austin rivers project.

I kept saying the Larry Johnson comparisons as well, but he also sounds a lot like Jamal Mashburn to me as well. I loved his post up game from the 3 back in the day. Maybe this guy will show what he can do once healthy and we can work him out! I was hoping for McLemore, Porter, or Oladipo, but its not looking so good now!

He's not a Mashburn type. Doesn't handle the ball or drive to the basket like Mash. He's like a smaller Zach Randolph. He can post up and hit the open perimeter shot.

I think he should be an option if he can guard NBA 5's in this league he could fit next to Davis in a two forward type lineup. The problem is he hasn't shown the ability to defend the post. He's too offensive minded. However with his length, strength, mass, and athletic ability he has the skill to off set his lack of height. The question is his willingness to improve on the defensive side. Davis is a poor post defender, and Anderson isn't great either we can't afford to have 3 bigs that struggle to defend the post.

I feel this way about Bennett as well. His skill set is very grandmama esque'. Would be excited if they took a shot at him if he is available and Burke is gone.
