Should the Hornets consider Mitch McGary if he declares for the draft?

Do you think the Hornets should give serious consideration to drafting Mitch McGary if he declares for the draft? He would be a nice thick bodied center to develop next to Anthony Davis. I was impressed with his passing ability in the tournament and he appears to be a high energy player. In a recent mock draft Chad Ford had McGary going at #12 to Portland.

No way will he be in our range. We'd have to trade back pretty far to get to him.

I thought Louisville kind of bullied him around a bit. I like him but he will be no where near our range.

Louisville didnt bully him, he was in foul trouble.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

With a second round pick? Sure!

He is a lotto pick, but he should stay in Ann Arbor another year.

I dont see Portland taking McGary after they already drafted Leonard. They need players who can come in and play off the bench because they honestly have the worst bench in the league.

I wouldn't mind getting Gorgui Dieng if we can get a late first round pick. He reminds me of Surge from OKC.

No way. I'm not impressed. Dieng to me shows more potential.

I hate to compare him to another white guy bc he's white but he reminds me of David lee without the jump shot.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

He reminds me of Tyler Hansbrough, he has no were near the Skill set David Lee has. I want no part of him it, to show you how much I dislike his game I would pick Len over him.

I agree with Len over him. Actually I'd take almost anyone of McGary. Seems like a good College player, but I'm not sure he has NBA skills. He should stay another 2 years.

He also is a Freshman in college. There's not a ton of big guys with a devloped 15 footer in college.

This. I am gald nobody is comparing him to Kevin Love, but the kid has game. I see what you see in a David Lee clone. The kid is strong, and if it went for being in could trouble the world would have seen him put on a similar performance Monday night, as he did Saturday vs Syracuse. I like him, but I hope he stays another year and works on his game.

But hey, maybe you, me, and everyone on ESPN don't know what we are talking about when we comment on how good he is.

Dude really has no offense game (doesn't mean he cant develop, just very raw), just ridiculously strong and hustles. I personally think he should stay another year, would be easily a top 3 pick next year if healthy.

My rule of thumb is, if you're not a top 10 pick as a freshman don't leave early. But if he hasnt improved his stock by next year he will need to go. The allure of the unknown is pretty big in the draft. I'm not sure he will ever be a top 5 pick because his ceiling is a bit limited, but he's that type of guy every team would be better for having. Good on the boards. Solid defender. Tons of energy as UNO stated and that really is in essence David Lees game, he's just a little more skilled than McGary.

I get the David Lee minus jump shot comparisons. But just remember McGary is still a freshman and Lee played 4 years at Florida before coming out. Also McGary's numbers are actually better yeah Lee's freshman year across the board. The potential is there, but I still think he should wait another year before declaring.

I agree it would be best for him to stay another year, but do you really think he'll be a top 3 pick in next years draft class?

Oh hail no. If we were to pick him with any pick anywhere in the draft, I'd be very upset. He's a college player. His game does not translate to the NBA, IMO.

How is it, Draft "experts" and NBA guys can say McGary is a lottery player, yet people here say he is not cut out for the NBA?

If he can develop his offensive game and continue to grow on this NCAA performance yes. Like I said dude had 0 offensive game right now IMO and averaged over 7 and 6 per game. He didnt even play 20 minutes a game.

Andre Drummond averaged 10/7 at the same point in his college career. Your college stats don't tell how good a player you are getting in the NBA (if that makes sense).

If he progressed A LOT I could see top 7 or 8, but next year's class is too strong for him to go top 3, IMO.
