Trade Idea Ideas to get a 2nd pick and who would you target.

Would we be willing to take Perkins 2 year 18 million contract to get OKC's 11th or so and 30th. Burke could be a real possibility there and the late pick maybe Thomas from Ohio State. We would have to suck up this years contract amount but maybe trade him as an expiring the following year(2014/2015).

Can we just take on his contract without trading any players of our own?
I'd do it.....maybe for just their 11 pick.

No, too much money to absorb in our most crucial years of the rebuild.

It makes Lopez expendable which would free up 5 mil.

The only trade I'm interested in draft pick wise is a trade for a pick in next years first round. I'm buying Aminu Lopez Vasquez and roger masons value will be recognized and the pelicans will bite on a trade. As far as this draft goes, a 2nd round pick is worthless and instead of trading one of the above players mentioned for a 2nd rounder I'd rather trade all 3 to a team for a guaranteed top 10 next year

Aminu is a free agent and we have a big disadvantage in resigning him due to $ restrictions. More info in the Aminu thread.

Trade Hakim Warrick for Matt Carroll and make the $500,000 it costs to buy a 2nd rounder.

Trade out pick to Atlanta for their 2 picks (18 and 20 right now) + one of their 2nd round picks.

Select 2 of Jeff Whitey, CJ Mcollum, Kelly Olynyk, James Mcadoo, Dario Saric, Tony Mitchell.

With the 2nd rounder target Russ Smith, Doug Mcdermott, Dehsaun Thomson or any other prospect that falls.

Imagine if we got out of the draft with Jeff Whitey+ Saric/Macdoo/Mitchell + Deshaun Thomas. This draft is very weak up top but it has a lot of depth. The late first/ early 2nd round this year is very strong IMO.

I do like Doug M but everybody else hasn't proven much. I'd rather invest in Oladipo Ben Mc, Burke, porter, Noel or bazz. Nobody else outside of those guys IMO will do much

^^^ Whitey has proven more than everyone on that list haha. No one other than Oladipo has proven anything but the inability to step up in big games.

You could probably buy for cash consideration anything from 20 to 28. All these teams will be close to the cap; Chicago at 20, Brooklyn at 22, Knicks at 23, Denver at 25, clippers at 26, and OKC at 28. We would still keep our 1st rounder and it wouldn't hurt our cap. I couldn't find online how much we sold Memphis our pick for in 09 just to get an amount it may cost.

The OKC Perkins + Lottery pick is a very real possibility (maybe not for the Hornets, but for some team). They're at almost 65 million next year with just 9 players on the roster and 59 million the following year with just 5.

8.9 & 9.6 million is a lot to eat up on the cap but the Hornets can afford it if they aren't able to go sign any significant free agent this offseason.

OKC basically did the same thing a few years ago when they were just getting started piling all this talent. They took on Kurt Thomas's contract which had about 16 million left on it. They got 2 first round picks for taking on that contract, and then traded him later for additional players and another first round pick.

With those picks, they ended up getting Serge Ibaka, Byron Mullens, and Cole Aldrich.

1st rounders cost $3 million and 2nd rounders are usually about $500k.

I would do the Perkins trade in a heartbeat if they were offering both of their firsts. It would free us up to trade Lopez also.

Look at it this way, take on Perkins contract at roughly 9m/year. Lopez is 5m/year. Aminu would have been 3.7m/year if we had extended him earlier this year. If we Lopez after getting Perkins it would be no different than if we had kept Lopez + Aminu. Perkins + 2 first rounders or Lopez and Aminu? Yes it means we won't be able to offer a max to a player this offseason, but are there really any max worthy players anyway?

This would give us a great chance to rebuild through the draft. Counting our pick we could come away with Bazz, McC, and Withey. All for giving up 4mish in cap space and Aminu. Not counting what we could get in return for Lopez. Yes please Dell make this happen.
