Changing New Orleans to "Crescent City"?

I think a lot of the suggested names sound better with "Crescent City" in front of it. After playing Golden State last night I think it's what a team like this needs.

I doubt it's even a possibility but just wondering what the overall opinion on this is. I know it's been thrown around here and there on posts but not a thread solely for it.

I would actually like that. But I don't think it would happen.

I would be in support of it, but I doubt the league lets it happen.

If the people wanted this team to be part of the culture, they'd support the team in every reasonable way for a long period time, making discussing and participating in the teams events a norm.

Or shall we consider changing the name of St. Charles Avenue to something like St. Alligator Street, flood it, and send this place back to 1718 times?

How about we ban cars and only allow streetcars if that's too extreme?

Or should we just acknowledge that things change and start to accept the team rather than wish is was other than it is?

Well when I said it first it was New Orleans Centers. Which sounds way better than Pelicans. Just adding alliteration.

We can't have the color "black" because other teams have it. Same logic... I'm just saying I think it is more likely that the league says no.

Just curious, is Memphis this butt-hurt over being stuck with the name "Grizzlies"?

If we're gonna do that, it should be NOLA. NOLA Pelicans or Big Easy Rougarou.

No, but New Orleans prides itself on not being like other cities. So it would make sense that the locals would want a name that better symbolizes their basketball team.

I prefer "New Orleans" over Crescent City or Big Easy.

I hate to keep bringing it back to the Saints, but outside of New Orleans being predominantly Catholic/Christian, what does a Saint have to do with New Orleans? What does a knight have to do with the Saints? Are Dogs named Gumbo indiginous to New Orleans?

You can take any name (Zephyrs) and make it local (fleur du lis baseball-ized, nutria mascots, blah blah).

I dunno, go with Rougarou. If you thought the reaction to Pelicans was bad, Rougarou will get even more of a WTF from anyone outside the 504. (Hell, people IN the 504 still don't know what it is... i didn't until yesterday)

Symbolize a basketball team... then we should be called New Orleans Basketballs. Almost like the Nets...

I've been saying this all along, I think Crescent City _____ sounds better.

  23. #23
My first choice for a name would be Crescent City Krewe. Just sounds good to me.

None of the other names really fit with the Creacent City label as well, but my premier choice is definitely the Crescent City Krewe.

Depends on the teams marketing strategy for which one is best.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"
