It's because the Pelicans are playing complete basketball. When a team is making three point shots and not turning the ball over on offense, opponents can't get out in transition and lo and behold the defensive rating looks better. Conversely when you get turnovers and stops on defense, it makes it easier to score. Winning teams play COMPLETE basketball.
