Thread: NBA Awards 2018

    NBA NBA Awards 2018

So, weeks and weeks after the hype is dead and buried, the NBA awards finally arrive. The decision to put it so far after any action is awful, and the decision to host 'regular season' awards after the playoffs entirely is also bad. But that's how they've done it, and that's how we get here.

So, just a re-cap if anyone has forgotten:

MVP Nominees: Lebron James, Anthony Davis, James Harden
DPOY Nominees: Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, Rudy Gobert
ROTY Nominees: Donovan Mitchell, Ben Simmons, Jason Tatum
6MOY Nominees: Eric Gordon, Lou Williams, Fred VanVleet
MIP Nominees: Victor Oladipo, Clint Capela, Spencer Dinwiddie
COTY Nominees: Quin Snyder, Brad Stevens, Dwayne Casey.

Drop your predictions, although I think we can be pretty confident in some cases.

My expectations? Harden, Gobert, Simmons, Gordon, Oladipo, Stevens. That's what I think will happen.
My personal votes, if I had them? AD, AD, Mitchell, Gordon, Oladipo, Stevens. That's what I think should happen.

    So, let's go!
    Basketball.

My choice will have AD in both places as well, but I'll go with
    Harden
    Davis
    Simmons
    Williams
    Capela
    Stevens

    ROTY WINNER

Ben Simmons ended up with it. Not surprising at all, but kind of disappointing, wouldn't be who I'd pick.

    MOST IMPROVED PLAYER WINNER

And it goes to Victor Oladipo! That's one I'm pretty happy about, after being trashed for a year in OKC he finally got given the keys to an offense and turned into a star. Well deserved.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR WINNER

And they gave it to... Rudy Gobert.

Absolute robbery, should be ashamed of themselves frankly.

    Still no respect. Absolute disgrace.

I've checked the stats again and again. The only things Gobert had over AD was opponent's FG% within 6 feet, DBPM, and team defense.

AD blocked more shots, stole more possessions, defended better overall, lower opponent's FG% at the 3pt line, at 15ft, at 10ft, defensive win-shares, etc etc. It's pretty pathetic that they gave it to Gobert basically as an apology for robbing him last year.

SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR WINNER

They end up giving the award to Lou Williams! Kinda happy about that, I actually thought Gordon was better but given the way he played when he was in NOLA, I don't really want him to win anything ever again.

    COACH OF THE YEAR WINNER

Winner of this award is, unfortunately given his firing, Dwayne Casey for the Raptors!

Yo, thanks to this guy for seeing my comment about AD and thinking it needed to be heard by more people

Might have just seen the worst take in all of basketball.

    PLAY OF THE YEAR AWARD

Lebron's clutch buzzer beater over Jimmy Butler for the win against Minnesota for play of the year.

It's now been 22 minutes since the last award got given out. This is ridiculous.

    MOST VALUABLE PLAYER WINNER

In totally unsurprising, but also completely unjustified, events, the winner of this year's MVP is James Harden.

Totally undeserving, but hey. The narrative all season has been ''come on guys, he's missed out so many times, doesn't he deserve it now?''

Nope, but you're going to give him it anyway. This is the first pity-MVP, I think.

Unpopular opinion. James Harden is trash. Melo 2.0 if you ask me.

Rockets didn't start getting dominant until CP3 came back from his injury. Any team centered around Harden won't amount to much.

Agreed, for the most part. I wouldn't call him trash, he's still an upper tier player, but you can't ignore what you said: Rockets weren't really dominant until CP3 arrived.

Yep, absolutely disgraceful. Everyone with a vote should be ashamed.
