Coaching stability is a issue. Alvin Gentry is not wildly regarded as a winner in this league.
Most players that have choices seem to look for winning programs with history of winning.
It appears the Pelicans are trying to build a good core of asst coaches
    According to what?

I know fans think that. But fans think a lot of inaccurate things.

That's still your opinion. Is there anything to suggest that Gentry isn't widly thought of by players or his peers?

If that's the case how did he land asst. head coach gigs with the Clippers, then Golden St. before coming here? It's not like those were two losing franchises at the time.

There are major differences between being a head coach and an assistant. Being even the best assistant does not correlate to being the best head coach.
The real question is how GMs keep hiring unsuccessful retreads like Gentry and Byron Scott and keep their jobs.
Gentry had a history of being a losing head coach before Dell hired him. Gentry has never adapted to his team talents. Gentry plays one way and that one way requires a point guard with certain skills.

Mike D was a retread coach too before Houston this year.

Bitter ex players are probably never a good place to get information from. Ryan said he never got an open shot here when really the majority of the 3s he took were open.

Gordon claimed he was never used right but he refused rehab and never wanted to come off the bench here.

Evans doesn't know how to play in a ball movement system. His entire game is ISO heavy. He either was unwilling or unable to play the style of basketball Gentry runs. That's not on the coach that the player wants the ball in his hands at all times and refuses to play another type of way.

Buddy I haven't heard say anything negative about Gentry or the team. Only that he was allowed to do more things in Sac but that makes sense since they were tanking and he was their lead guy. Total different situation.

So...everyone else on the team? Everyone at Golden State or Steve Nash, Shawn Marion, and Amar'e? Pull up the most recent examples that are barely even good examples?
