I have to say that I'm starting to love more Diallo than Buddy as our rookie in this team.
Just look at his summer league stats through his first 4 games : 10.5ppg (%FG 0.51) 9.2rpg 2bpg in 29min at 19
Now I know it's only summer league but let's put thing in prospective by looking to the numbers of the first summer league from several players of the same age (ranking is from low to high rpg):
Porzingis (2015/2016) : 10.5ppg (%FG 0.48) 3.25rpg 1.75 bpg in 20.6min at 19
Tristan Thompson ( 2012/2013) : 10 ppg (%FG 0.607) 3.75rpg 0.5bpg in 15.7min at 21
Julius Randle (2014/2015) : 12.5ppg (%FG 0.419) 4.25rpg 0.75bpg in 23.4min at 20
Hassan Whiteside (2010/2011) : 6.83ppg (%FG 0.439) 5rpg 2.33 bpg in 25.8min at 21
Andre Drummond (2012/2013) : 7.4ppg (%FG 0.50) 5.4 rpg 2 bpg in 24.3 min at 19
Brook Lopez (2008/2009) : 16.86ppg (%FG 0.511) 5.86rpg 2bpg in 26min at 20
Kosta Koufos (2008/2009) : 8.33 ppg (%FG 0.319) 6rpg 0.67bpg in 19.2min at 19
Bismack Biyombo (2012/2013) : 8.6ppg (%FG 0.556) 6rpg 1.8 bpg in 21 min at 19
Rudy Gobert (2013/2014) : 5.4ppg (%FG 0.526) 6.2rpg 2.4bpg in 21.2min at 21
Steven Adams (2013/2014) : 9ppg (%FG 0.6) 6.5rpg 1.25 bpg in 27 min at 20
Derrick Favors (2010/2011) : 10.6ppg (%FG 0.467) 6.8rpg 0.6 bpg in 27.6min at 19
KAT (2015/2016) : 12.8 pgg (%FG 0.396) 7.2 rpg 1.8 bpg in 31.2min at 19
DeAndre Jordan ( 2008/2009) : 7.75 ppg (%FG 0.619) 7.75 rpg 1.25bpg in 25.8min at 20
Greg Monroe (2010/2011) : 14.6ppg (%FG 0.521) 8rpg 0.4bpg in 30.6min at 20
Jahlil Okafor (2015/2016) : 16.2 ppg ( %FG 0.45) 8.2 rpg 0.8 bpg in 31min at 19
Meyers Leonard (2012/2013) : 10.5ppg (%FG 0.56) 8.25rpg 1.5 bpg in 29.8min at 20
Jonas Valanciunas (2013/2014) : 18.75 ppg (%FG 0.561) 10 rpg 0.75bpg 29.1 min at 21
Dwight Howard (2004/2005) : 14.44 (%FG 0.383) 11.22rpg 2.22 bpg in 34min at 19
Kevin Love (2008/2009) : 18 ppg (%FG 0.482) 13.5rpg 0.75 bpg in 27min at 19
So from this group, Cheick is the 4th best rebounder, 10th scorer, 5th shot blocker. That's good for a guy that played so little in college.
I know that summer league stats are not really relevant but let's just say that the fact that he's comparing favorably to starting caliber center in NBA shows that he's not an "only upside guy".
Honestly he's everything we should look for a center next to AD. Good rebounder, high motor, good screener, can run the floor, switch on picks, protect the rim. If he can focus on being a great defender and bulk up, I think he could look for a starting spot next year.
Ish gets 6 millions a year. His replacement gets 2 millions.
We have received one of the picks used for Diallo AND 2017 Philly pick
The worst part of that comment is knowing that Diallo won't get much PT at all. But given his skill set, you know he'll have a few splash plays and that will give him groundswell. But I saw a lot of weird things from Diallo that shows he has a lot to figure out mentally before he's ready. Never mind just the physical aspect. But, I mean, he's actually 19. So he's got oodles of potential and that does get me really, really excited.
But Buddy is going to play early and often. May not start immediately, but he'll get lots of chances to succeed and fail. And each failure could be more reason for those who skew negative or just wanted Murray instead to pile on Buddy unfairly.
Cheick out the NBA.com rookie ladder
Diallo 6th

Anyone know what Diallo's salary will be?
I know David Fisher estimated 1.2M but I think that is worng.
Ivica Zubac who was drafted 32nd & got 1.03M in his first season of a four year deal.
Tyler Ullis got $976,300 in his first year of a four year deal.
I'm guessing Diallo will be inbetween that.
After the Frazier signing we had 2.297M in cap space to sign Diallo and now Jones.
I think Diallo gets about 1.097M and Jones gets 1.2M.
Putting a total expenditur at 96.43M

there are different second round contracts - most paid already was 3 years - 4 millions (with little increase)
so it is fair to assume that Cheick will get around 1 millions
Hopefully for 3 years, to give us full bird rights.
Any of our trade was not officially announced, there are no words about press conference.
So we don't have anyy official infos...
It is wonderful to hear all of these great statements about him.
Okay after looking at the highlights of Diallo I can see where he can be a center.
Cheick Diallo is gonna be a stud in due time. Just don't get your hopes up too much for this up coming season though. I like his skill set for being a high energy, hustling, shot blocking, rebounding, defensive minded player. I think he will surprise though with the minutes he ends up playing this season. I think him and TJones will complement each other rather well as the backup power forwards. If he goes to KU on time like everyone else, I think he would of went in the lottery for sure. He tore up the combine and high school all star games. I think since he was late, KU didn't really need him, and Perry Ellis was a senior, Bill Self tried to hide him on the bench to hope he would come back for his sophomore season!! I would bet money on it that if Self knew he was gonna leave no matter what Diallo would of played a HELL OF ALOT more last season.
Was just watching Diallo highlights, cos you know, offseason. And I got to thinking about how he has roots in playing soccer. I've seen a couple players that played soccer and started playing basketball, and if they're skills are reasonably developed, they can become really good basketball players because of similar fundamentals.
I'm hoping those soccer instincts (provided he doesn't kick the ball) can give Diallo an advantage. One thing about soccer players is that they never stop running. Diallo could use those soccer like instincts to be everywhere on the floor, particularly on defense and make good anticipations for deflections steals and blocks. Also soccer players have good concepts of cutting and running into space. If he channels those efforts properly Diallo could really get alot of easy points from making good cuts.
I have a coworker who is a huge KU fan and he told me that we have a superstar on our hands. He said he didn't play much but when he did his energy was infectious.
watching his highlights..... it's amazing they didn't call traveling while he dances around with his pivot foot
They are very long. As in, he has arms that are only 1" shorter than AD's. Their standing reach is less than an inch apart.
That's what makes Diallo such an interesting prospect. There are probably only 3 other guys in the NBA that have that type of wingspan on a body like that. Most guys are big centers that are 4-5" taller. His length combined with his mobility means he's a harder prospect to evaluate but he's super intriguing.
I'm pulling hard for Diallo.
nice to finally have two nice draft prospects from the same draft
I think I read somewhere that standing reach is one of the biggest predictors for success in the NBA.
The thing about Diallo is he'd probably be lottery pick in 2017 if he stayed in college. He has major potential. He's a very smart player and should be a great teammate.
He's hard to evaluate but so far he's shown signs that he might be a good player. I think he's going to be a huge steal.
