He died on tour in Japan of an apparent heart attack.
I was a huge fan of his. After being released from a long stay in prison he really took steps to turn his life around and was IMO going to be a fixture of the New Orleans music scene for decades to come. His rendition of St. James Infirmary is literally my favorite song right now. I'm saddened that I'll never be able to hear it again.
