"The pelican is fearsome. Take a raven, for example: it's omnivorous. It eats bugs, and seeds, and fruit, and carrion. Compared to the well-rounded citizen that is the raven, the pelican is the serial killer of birds." - Barry Petchesky, Deadspin
I don't say this hardly ever but the refs cost us this game. Straight up. The most disgusting display I have seen in terms of officiating all season.
Only the Dallas/Pelicans game a year or so ago where Austin literally was tackled ranks higher in recent memory.
This was pathetic. Absolutely ****ing pathetic.
Even our guys, who are probably the most even-handed local analysts in the league, were clearly disgusted.
Hell even Monty, who usually just stares blankly at bad calls or at most makes a brief comment to a ref, was literally given a tech for what was the most blatant example of the refs ****ery this game.
AD needs to have 20 shots a game, dude went 11-13. People like cunningham had the same amount of shots as AD.
Cunningham is the new Jason Smith, it seems.
A guy that is decent at only hitting mid-range jumpers and is often wide open for them.
Unlike with Smith, that cannot remain his thing. He absolutely needs to become a 3pt shooter. Long, foot on the line 2s aren't acceptable anymore. Even from AD, to be honest.
He will never become an efficient scorer. I can say that with relative certainty. The question is whether his defense and intangibles will outweigh his poor offense. I think that in a much smaller role, they could.
Ah, remember the days when some on this board were worried that DC was playing so well that we couldn't afford to keep him? Wish we had that problem again.

monty said postgame gordon was coming of the bench because of disciplinary reasons! keeps me wondering, really thought gordon bought completly in this team now, but maybe he is not that much into the playoff hunt!

Also, shooting guard Eric Gordon was scratched from the starting lineup for disciplinary reasons that involved showing up late for a team meeting. He sat on the bench almost for the first eight minutes before entering the game for the first time.
When he got on the floor, though, Gordon delivered. He scored eight points in his first eight minutes on the floor. He finished with 23 points. In the third quarter, Gordon got a scare when his face hit the court hard after he tried to drive past Matt Barnes. He suffered a chipped tooth but remained in the game.
I don't want AD to become a 3 point threat. He hits those mid range shots with ease, it's almost as if no shot is a bad shot. I feel like he'd be stretching it if he went to the 3. Plus, like EVERY other big man in the league who has a good shot, once they develop the slightest long range shot, they fall in love with it and completely forget what made them successful. Don't want to see AD become that.
Don't look too much into it bruh.
With AD, I would like his next step to be learning how to free himself from defenses in the half-court. Especially when the other team is scheming their rotations so that two people are nearly always within arm's reach of him. Part of this would be setting better picks, but a lot of it is him moving while away from the ball, in general. Sometimes, he is just held and it goes uncalled, but he still needs to learn to play through it or draw more attention to him being held.
Right now, it feels like he just floats around a lot. If he improves on that, it should get him an extra shot at least every eight minutes.
Keep in mind that I haven't rewatched any games, so my memory is probably faulty, but that is the next place he can make a big jump, imo.
You don't need to be arguing with me about it. AD is already working on his 3. It's happening.
I liked what I saw from Cunningham since we acquired him. I knew he couldn't keep up the percentage he was shooting with those long twos. I still really liked his game. His hustle and good defense were really fun to watch.
I was at the Suns game (and besides what I'm about to say, let's pretend that game never existed) but it really helped me see what Cunningham does. It's hard to say but he plays so physical. He's almost dirty. He was giving elbows on screens, he was grabbing jerseys when he could. He is one of those guys you hate when you're playing against him. I appreciate his tenacity and think our team needs a little of that. They don' have to "be mean" like that bleacher report article regarding AD, but they have to be willing to stand up to confrontation, and I think he, Cole, and Q-Pon do a good job of teaching our more talented players that much.
