Monty immediately thanks the fans for a good atmosphere inside the SKC tonight
"The pelican is fearsome. Take a raven, for example: it's omnivorous. It eats bugs, and seeds, and fruit, and carrion. Compared to the well-rounded citizen that is the raven, the pelican is the serial killer of birds." - Barry Petchesky, Deadspin
Month of January we beat: 1. Rockets
2. Grizzlies
3. Raptors
4. Mavericks
5. Clippers
Anyone remember what GS winning streak was this year?
Was it more than 18 wins in a row like the Hawks?
Jarett Jack 35, 13 and 8 rebounds in a loss to Toronto in OT
We have 35 games left.... We have won 25 so far... I'm guessing we'll have to win about 48-53 games to have a chance in getting in the playoffs. To be realistic we'd probably need to win 25 out of the next 35 games to get the 8th seed. Each loss hurts pretty bad at this point. If we can start winning .60-70 of our games, which I think isn't impossible, I think we can make the playoffs. We'll probably be the 9th seed with 46 wins but if we get in I will be so happy.
Just returned from SKC and would like to post some observations:
AD should take Monty suit shopping
Chris Paul still assists, assists and assists through 3 quarters then SCORES in the fourth
WTF was Doc thinking at the end of the game down by 3. I completely understand fouling with one to give, but fouling the Jimmer with time left and a chance to tie with a 3 Pt shot? I don't get it.
Despite his 10 shots on 4/8 AND sinking 2/2 FT shots I am so glad that Austin Rivers is a Clipper and not a Pelican
QPon made 3/4 3 Pt shots and there is NO WAY Austin will ever match this
Dante Cunningham (who signed my hat Wednesday night) had TWELVE rebounds. I hope he can be resigned but I keep thinking Morrow
Based on his production Ryno should ONLY shoot 3 Pt shots but he also almost had a double double with 9 rebounds
Eric Gordon played his best game in NOLA and not just on offense
Tyreke had 12 assists and despite driving to the lane had 0 FT attempts?
I didn't even notice Luke Babbitt played 5 minutes
Jimmer had 7 pts in 6 minutes
Omer +/- was +9 despite 1/5 FG made 3/6 FT and only 7 rebounds (which may have all been in first half)
Pelicans dance team have longer hair and bigger thighs
Season ticket holder since 2002
Mostly just trying to satisfy my OCD tendencies by getting to 3,000 posts
Work kept me busy all game but I'm glad we won. Big, big deal.
Sign Monty to 5y/120 max now before the new TV rights come in.
These victories over Toronto and L.A. w/o AD and Holiday confirm what I believe. This roster for the most part is fine. Demps has done his job well. It up to Monty to get them to play right.
Like that play they ran for Cunningham to pretty much seal it. Tyreke can make that pass all day. More of that and less iso goofiness.
The reason we won tonight (and most of our wins) can be summed up in 3 words... "we made shots".
When we make shots we win. When we shoot like crap... we lose. I'll even take it a step further and say when Ryno and Gordon make shots... we win. When they don't... we lose.
Check our wins and loses (with and without AD) and you'll see that those 2 guys have a huge influence on our games.
We are a jump shooting team. When we are on, we can beat anyone. Off - lose to anyone.
We went 13-25 tonight from 3. Monty didn't do anything to make those shots go in that he failed to do prior to Denver.
Reddick and Crawford went 1-11 from three, and the Clips in general missed a lot of open looks. That won't happen on most nights either.
Its a make or miss league and until we get a low post threat and/or guards who can get to the line more for those nights when the jumpers aren't falling, we will continue to be maddening inconsistent. I think it is more about that then Monty getting guys ready by going bowling or not going bowling or yelling or not yelling or serving chicken fingers instead of Quinoa salad.
