Mekel release, Evans' uncertainty... Russ is a little insurance at guard. This does not affect the roster spot opened by Mekel release.

if jimmer continues to struggle from 3 might as well throw him in with the second unit. at least he gives us more ball pressure than salmons & jimmer if those guys aren't scoring

Initial guess was if his D-League team were on some kind of break. And sure enough, that's the case.

We didn't do anything like this with Pierre Jackson, so pretty clear we are very vested in Russ Smith's future with this team. Hopefully he doesn't wind up as trade sweetener in the end though.

I could very much see him becoming a kind of Patrick Beverley deal.
