Thread: Found our Future Small Forward

    Found our Future Small Forward

    KJ McDaniels

Ok so I can't say I found him, it was actually MM who was high on this guy so I decided to check up on how he is doing so far this season for the 76ers. Read up on some stats and went on some 76ers forums to read about him.

    In 22.4 minutes a game:

He's shooting 46.2 from the field on 7 attempts a game

Shooting 39.5% from the 3 point line at 2.9 attempts a game

He is shooting 50% from the corner 3

And he's only turning it over 1.6 times.

And he's a lockdown defender and floor runner/transition finisher.

Now you COULD say this is because he is playing for a bad 76ers team, but regardless of your team, good defense is good defense, and a good 3 ball is a good 3 ball. Actually when you are on a bad team your defense should look worse for a lack of help defense.

KJ McDaniels was smart enough and had enough faith in his natural ability to only sign a 1 year deal so he could try and earn a nicer contract.

The only thing he lacked in college was the 3 ball, and it looks like its clicking.

I watched KJ play in person a couple times while he was at Clemson. Dude is a freak athlete. He's only 21 and is kind of a poor man's MKG (and he has a better jump shot). At 6'6 he's kind of undersized but his length and athleticism make up for it. He wouldn't spread the floor for us much but he would definitely help on the defensive end, where our perimeter defense could use some help.

He has shown frustration for lack of playing time on the Sixers, though I'm not sure if he is on the rebuilding train or not (most players aren't).

MKG with a jumper? Sign me up twice!

He's not as under-control slashing but he can definitely finish at the rim if he gets there. He's actually more explosive than MKG too (he also weighs like 30 pounds less than him...) Plays great off ball defense and has a nice 15-footer. I could see him fitting in nicely.

Ok... so he's on the 76ers. How is he in our future if he's on another team? LOL

I said he only signed a 1 year deal with the 76ers and will be a free agent this summer. Hence "future".

Thats fine, don't need another slasher. a SF who can be a 3 and D, also run the floor and be a transition finisher and has a mid range pop? Perfect.

How will he be a restricted free agent? He signed a 1 year deal, the 1 year deal will be over, making him an UNRESTRICTED free agent.

If we get some kind of exemption for Gordon being out, I'd like to go after a few players. My first would be Wilson Chandler. I don't know if they plan on blowing it up in Denver but I believe they are close to 73 Million in salary and will be 64 Mil with Faried's contract coming up. It is possible that they may want to shed some salary and the best part is he has a team option next year for 7 plus million.

My second would be Gerald Green from the Suns. I doubt this would happen because I don't think there is anything we could give them that they would need or want, but we would need outside scoring from the SF position if Reke moves to the SG.

My third would be Harkless. If Orlando doesn't want him lets give a young man a test drive and see, he should be cheap and we could maybe give up a small asset for him. He might not be great but maybe some new scenery will do him good and there won't be the expectations because he'll only be a role player.

I wanted him also, he's huge at 6"10, very athletic, a good rebounder and defender and can hit the 3. Sounds like the type of player we need.
