    NBA Rockets/Mavs game Saturday

I don't recall seeing a box score like this one before. So the Mavericks attempted 35 3's and made 6 of them. Not to be outdone the Rockets attempted 46 3's and made 15 of them. The Rockets attempted 82 shots total and more than half of them were from deep.

The Rockets won 95-92 without Dwight Howard.

New Orleans better be ready to defend the 3 when they play Houston. Thoughts?

Houston is leading the NBA with 33.3 3's attempted per game and Dallas is second at 26.5. Portland is 3rd at 26.

    New Orleans is at 20.4.

Last year Houston was 1st at 26.6 and New Orleans was at 15.9.

Having Gordon out may lower the 3's attempted per game by a little because Gordon is at 3.5 attempts/game this year which is his lowest in his career, his highest being 5.2 attempts for his career. Rivers will probably be between 1.6-2 attempts with increased minutes.

Come playoff time though if you depend too much on the three it's hard to see having too much impact. 40 threes in a game is a joke

First you have to get to the playoffs. Six of the Eight teams in the playoffs today in the Western Conference are in the top seven in 3's attempted per game.

That joke you speak of, the Rockets 46 3's attempted, beat the Mavericks without their best player, D12.

Here are the 12 teams who attempt the least 3's per game.

    1 Sacramento
    2 Memphis (1st)
    3 Washington
    4 Minnesota
    5 Lakers
    6 Charlotte
    7 Orlando
    8 New York
    9 Milwaukee
    10 New Orleans
    11 Chicago
    12 Brooklyn

As you can see, the only current playoff team in the bottom 12 in the West is Memphis.

Okay guys I thought of a solution! Start Ryno so he can play 36 minutes and jack up nine maybe ten 3's per game.

I think trends change and team can completely live by the 3 ball. Guys are vastly more skilled knocking down shots from range. Coaches understand the value of the 3 ball not only counting as an extra point, but the space said shot creates. The Spurs killed the Heat last year spacing them out with great passing, but also having soon many players that can shot really well from behind the arc.

Houston's record is skewed by one of the easiest schedules to date in the league. Ther win against Dallas was the only impressive victory they have had, yet Dallas still is weak on defense. Portland has played 3 road games.

Using records at this point in the young season is not a good barometer. Houston struggled and probably should have lost to the 76ers. They did lose to the Lakers.
