I Want It All; I Want it Now

These Queen lyrics keep screaming in my brain. I want it all. I want it now.

There is no doubt in my mind that the 2014 Pelicans roster is better than the 2007-2008 Hornets roster that finished 56-26, and 1st in NBA Southwest Division. This was the roster that posted that 56-26 record and took the Spurs to 7 games in the Western Conference Semifinals. They only won 39 games in 2006. The Pelicans won 34 games in 2013. If the Pelicans can improve by 17 games like the 2007 Hornets did then we could win 51 games in 2014. I think our current team is better than the 2007 team so I can't see why we can't make this leap:

    1 Chris Andersen C 6-10 230 July 7, 1978 5 Blinn College
    12 Hilton Armstrong C 6-11 235 November 11, 1984 1 University of Connecticut
    40 Ryan Bowen SF 6-7 215 November 20, 1975 7 University of Iowa
    45 Rasual Butler SF 6-7 205 May 23, 1979 5 La Salle University
    6 Tyson Chandler C 7-1 235 October 2, 1982 6
    33 Melvin Ely C 6-10 260 May 2, 1978 5 California State University, Fresno
    8 Bobby Jackson SG 6-1 185 March 13, 1973 10 University of Minnesota
    5 Mike James PG 6-2 188 June 23, 1975 6 Duquesne University
    2 Jannero Pargo SG 6-1 175 October 22, 1979 5 University of Arkansas
    3 Chris Paul PG 6-0 175 May 6, 1985 2 Wake Forest University
    9 Morris Peterson SG 6-7 218 August 26, 1977 7 Michigan State University
    16 Peja Stojakovic SF 6-9 220 June 9, 1977 9
    11 Marcus Vinicius SF 6-8 225 May 31, 1984 1
    24 Bonzi Wells SG 6-5 210 September 28, 1976 9 Ball State University
    30 David West PF 6-9 240 August 29, 1980 4 Xavier University
    32 Julian Wright SF 6-8 225 May 20, 1987 R University of Kansas

    "I Want It All"

Adventure seeker on an empty street,
Just an alley creeper, light on his feet
A young fighter screaming, with no time for doubt
With the pain and anger can't see a way out,
It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say,
Gotta find me a future move out of my way,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,

Listen all you people, come gather round
I gotta get me a game plan, gotta shake you to the ground
Just give me what I know is mine,
People do you hear me, just give me the sign,
It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth
Here's to the future for the dreams of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,

I'm a man with a one track mind,
So much to do in one life time (people do you hear me)
Not a man for compromise and where's and why's and living lies
So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all,
And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all,
It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth,
Here's to the future, hear the cry of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
    [etc.]

Great First post. I loved me some Bobby Jackson, but he was no Squeaky Johnson.

Chris Paul put on a clinic running that team. There's no way "on paper" to account for that. How many teams did we own in the West that year that had better teams on paper? Also, I think in hindsight we are under rating how good David West and Tysons Chandler are. Tyson anchored a defense that pitched an absolute gem against LeBron and Co. Then won DPOY with 54 wins on a shaky Knocks squad. Meanwhile, DX has been heart and soul of two ECF teams, one that was the class of the league for half the season. That's impressive when you think about.

Davis makes a leap, Eric Gordon stays healthy and Jrue, Ryno, and Reke play like quasi All Stars then we can chat.

Well both teams have a rookie of the year with some seasons under their belt and this year's squad has a most improved player and a couple of former all stars and a two time olympic gold medalist. Chris Paul and David West didn't make the all star team until that year. That's a couple of ways "on paper". Of course that team had crazy chemistry and CP3. But at this point I would say Anthony Davis has more upside than even 07-08 CP did. I know the west is way more stacked this year so it would be unlikely to get a seeding that high. Being optimistic here (I think that's what OP was looking for).

Also I went to game 7 that year against the spurs and fabricio oberto gave me a high-five and I feel really bad about that and the series in general.
