KJ McDaniels only signs for 1-year Rookie Deal

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/philade...143327281.html

If he plays well in his rookie year, he may be on the Pelicans' radar come next summer. (and we all know he WILL get playing time in Philly)

Eh...he'll be a restricted FA. Even if he plays well, there will be teams who'll have more money to offer than us, and the 76ers will pay him anyway if he really plays well

Was he on our radar this year? I know a lot of fans were interested in drafting him, did we ever hear about the team having interest?

He was one of the guys being discussed to possibly buy in to the draft and take in the 2nd rd.

    Is this an unprecedented move?

It could work out very well for him. Lots of talent in this draft that would've gone in the 1st round in other drafts. (and be subject to a larger $ contract)

And why not? If you prove in that first year that you are better than expected, whats the point in locking yourself in for 4 years at a crap salary?
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Think they are looking at the new TV deals as well? Thinking that the overall league will raise salaries for avg players as well as max players?

I think they and their agents are looking towards next season. If some of these guys play really well they will be better off than most of the top draft picks in their own draft class.

I believe the salary levels are all percentages of the cap, so, yeah, they should get somewhat significant pay raises if they prove useful.

My mind shoots to Wes Matthews when he was playing for the Jazz. He wasn't drafted (was an udfa). Came in, proved his worth, 1 year later he is one of the top 20 highest paid sg's out there.

    GR3 is doing it too?

Will he also be restricted next offseason?

Even if these guys are restricted Dell has a habit of going after restricted guys. I think this is escalated by the fact that the only returning wings we have next year are:

    Tyreke &
    Gordon (if he opts in)
    Darius has a team option.

    Wings for 2015:

    Jeff Green (player option)
Jimmy Butler (restricted; again, Dell doesn't care about restrictions)
    Mike Dunleavey (unrestricted)
    Jae Crowder (restricted)
    Afflalo (unrestricted)
    Draymon Green (restricted)
Klay Thompson (restricted; may resign for max)
    Khris Middleton (restricted)
    Schumpert (restricted)
    Tobias Harris (restricted)
    Gerald Green (unrestricted)
    Marco Bellinelli (unrestricted)
    Danny Green (unrestricted)

None of these guys would be a member of our core (except for Klay, fingers crossed) but we need to fill some gaps.

You don't need core guys any more. You potentially have 4 or 5 guys that are your core. As MM pointed out in another thread, now you need solid glue guys. Get your Jae Crowder/Draymon Green/ Schumpert/ Danny Green etc., types to fill out your Robert Horry, Rick Fox type roles.

Smart thinking on their parts. Good agents too. Hopefully they dont get injured or tank because that's 3 yrs they wont get paid much when they could have been locked in.
