From what I've read that is the primer. The final color will be a darker gray.
Why not Navy Blue

This is correct, however if you look closely at that picture, I think parts of the arena have been painted with both the darker gray and the primer. The lighter grey in that pic is the primer, the darker is the actual new color.
I've been passing by the Smoothie King Center every day and a lot of progress has been made this week. The new grey color actually has a silver tint to it especially when the sun is rising and setting. It is being applied with rollers! I'll see if I can post pictures but couldn't stop today because of an event. The silver (grey) color actually contrasts very nicely with the gold dome skin. "Silver and Gold"

Just passed by it and it looks way better than the old teal. The lighter gray/silver does seem to have a metallic quality to it. It'll look awesome once they add the lights to it.
when they add the lights the smoothie king center will look great. cant wait for opening night!!!

I passed by there tonight and they have purple lights going around the building under the SKC sign.
Would this be the "light show" that I've seen bounced around here or is there more to come?

The darker grey that's going up now really clashes with the roof on the arena in the daytime. They're going to have to do something about that.

i don't think so at all, i think the grey looks great with the silver - the whole things really looks silver, which is very cool next to the gold dome.

I like the way it's coming along. It doesn't fix the biggest problem (putting it next to the massive Superdome just makes it look like a shrimpy little brother) but the paint job makes it look much more like a genuine arena than it did before. And they finally got rid of that smudge on the interstate side that looked like it needed Goo Gone on it.

I think the arena may also be getting lights that reflect off of the surface of the building and not just the light strip
