Here's my issue with the metrics argument. Metrics don't take game time scenarios in consideration. For ex. if Gordon leaves the game every time the opposing starting SG leaves the game, in theory for most teams, the offensive production should drop from 1st string to 2nd string. This would give the allusion that when Gordon's not in, the defense gets better. The metric I'd want to see would be defense with Gordon in the starting line-up vs when he's not in the starting line-up. Also, I'd like to see the metrics from position POV to see if when Gordon leaves the game does the opposing SG "fall back" in efficiency. If its all about the team defense getting better or worse with/without Gordon in the game, I'd look at specifically what changes with him in or out to determine if the team is indeed better without him. There are too many game time scenarios to look at metrics to say the team is better without X player.
The most overused words on Pelicansreport.com. Wrongly, I might add.
ELITE - (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.
GREAT - notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding
These words should not be used lightly
A player's impact on his team's defense can be super-hard to quantify in this sport. It is heavily scheme and lineup dependent.
Offensive stats, thankfully, are much more usable.

* SG Eric Gordon, New Orleans. He’s still young, and it’s not clear if this is who he is now or if he’s not quite yet all the way back from his early-career injuries.
But if we use the last few seasons as a baseline… Gordon is just not a good player any more and he’s getting worse and worse specifically on D, which is killing the Pelicans.
He has slow feet and a large disinterest in chasing offensive players through picks or paying attention to the strong side when he’s currently standing on the weak side.
A stat: Gordon’s -4.75 DRPM this season ranked him 432nd in the entire league, which is almost last. Into Jimmer Territory.
Another stat: The Pelicans were +6.2 points on defense per 100 poss’s when Gordon was OFF the floor vs. when he was ON, which was the second-largest bad-D deficit I could find for any individual player in the league.
Last stat: New Orleans out-scored its opponents when Gordon was OUT; New Orleans was out-scored by 7.1 points per 100 poss’s when he was IN the game.
Which is what anyone could see with their own eyes. I clearly remember a stretch of games when gordon was out and i remember thinking, oh crap, we'll lose all of the next games. Because gordon is still what 12 or 14 ppg (wow) and with so many injuries back then, it seemed to me we needed him to win anything. Guess what. We actually played better without him and even won games.
No one will ever convince me this team would be better with a decent (not even good, not even very good) sf in gordon's place and reke at the 2. Nothing that i've seen so far convinced me of the fact that gordon is actually good for this team. His paltry offensive contribution can be replaced, especially given his contract. His pathetic defensive effort must be replaced, especially considering his contract.
You can say this about any player on the roster. We actually had games where we played better and won games over the last two years without AD. It happens. It means nothing.
Dell and Monty obviously do not follow this thought pattern. They could have easily resigned Aminu and played Reke at the SG. I don't even think they considered it.
Lol, ok bro. I forgot we had so much cap space that we could sign a starting SF comparable to Reke and just didnt.
Maybe... just maybe... the reason theyre playing him at SF is because you dont pay a SG $15mil/yr and not start him at SG, forcing us to play Reke somewhere else, because he's also too good to leave on the bench.
Some of the problems we see with Gordon are not easy to capture by reviewing the stats.
Watch him. His defense and his effort is very subpar for a good starter. It's terrible for someone getting 15mil a year. Demps made a mistake and everyone knows it. Gordon is injury prone and a below average ball-handler. He's not much of a playmaker like holiday, Davis, and Tyreke. He turns the ball over too much for a SG. He's arrogant and disrespectful. I want him gone. Do what it takes Dell. I'm telling y'all this year he's going to BR traded unless he gets hurt again. Demps can make this team better by trading EG if Gordon plays well and is healthy.

Um how is he not? He argues with the coach, misses massive playing time, and wants to call the shots. If a coach wants to put you as 6th man well dammit you are being 6th man. He wants to lead the team, but how can he lead a team to victory when he is always on the bench hurt, and on top of that all the time he misses he thinks he should still be a starter
I think Gordon after his max deal is up, should reshape his game to become a 3pt specialist, sort of what Ray Allen did.
If he has got anything going for him in my opinion, he can hit the three ball effectively, and i much prefer him to camp at the 3pt line and shoot rather than try to cross his defender and drive which always turns into a turnover.
