    The PELICANS bench.

Our bench will not be a strength. We won't see improvement unless Young or Russ show they are really legit. Jimmer is Bryan Roberts at best. Rivers is a child in a man's league, miller hasn't proven anything and probably can't play in this league, Ajinca is a decent player but really slow, Whithey is not nba material. He's not gonna get better. Let's face it. Demps picked Russ and Pat young because they are cheap and could possibly make the bench better. However, there is a fair chance that when the real games start they don't do so well. We lost Morrow and Smith and Bryan Roberts. All of these guys were desired by other teams. Some of y'all might argue these guys are a dime a dozen and you might be right but for this season I'm not too sure this bench will do so well. We'll see.

Disagree, I like our bench a lot

    Russ is NBA ready

Rivers if he improves like he did last year he will be plenty good enough just from his defense and 3pt shooting alone, not to mention his shot creating, passing, if he gets stronger and finishes at the rim he will be a monster

    salmons or babbitt are fine

ryno might be the best bench player in the NBA

    Ajinca is good enough

    It is Brian Roberts

Forgot about Salmons. I like him based on his experience which this team needs BUT he is not going to do too much on the court.

I like your optimism about Rivers and that would be the main thing that would change my view of the bench. He really needs to MAN UP!

Ya I think just having ryno gives us a decent bench

I just hope that our starting lineup is down a few points so Monty can put the shooters in off the bench.

    Jimmer
    Salmons
    Babbitt
    Anderson
    Ajinca or withey

Yes, no defense...I know. But it would definitely be fun to watch...

Think more like Tyreke, Rivers, Ajinca, and Ryno with either Jimmer or Darius (maybe sometimes Babbitt) depending on match ups as the 2nd unit. This group should be a very effective bench.

Starters being Jrue, Gordon, Asik, Salmons, and AD.

Mix and match these 10 or 11 through out the game. Everyone else on the team will play very little. Russ and Young are nothing more than prospects they liked who will probably spend some time in the D league. Babbitt and Withey are mostly here to watch barring injury or foul trouble.

It's that the Hornets unashamedly quit so quickly in Game 4 after fans in New Orleans showed up this season with greater regularity than the team could have ever dreamed, shaming misinformed know-it-alls like me who kept telling you that local residents couldn't possibly invest their time and money into something as trivial as rooting for the local basketball team while still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. - Mark Stien ESPN

    Rivers
    Jimmer
    Ryno
    Miller
    Ajinca

defense and Rivers willingness to pass to the ball, will determine how successful the bench will be.....

I know you're hopeful but you expect defense from this unit? Ryno, Jimmer both are very weak on defense. Ajinca is not a good defender. Rivers is good on defense and Miller is not the defensive specialist people act like he is.

I really hope Patric Young can show he's able to get on the court because he can help this team with defense. He probably will get very few minutes if any at all.

You're right. My bad. I still stand by my original point even with Ryno. I don't think we will stop other teams with this bench. It's not promising at all. You disagree?

Why do people keep putting these units out there with 5 bench players? When this team is healthy, you will rarely, if ever, see that.

One of the main guards will come out early and Rivers or Salmons will come in to play with the starting lineup. Then Asik will come out and Ryno will go in. Then, a few mins later, Asik will come in for AD and play next to Ryno.

The units will be staggered, always have at least 1-2 starters on the floor. When you have a roster this top heavy, this is how rotations work. It is how the rotations went last year when we were healthy.

It'd be cool if one of Jimmer, Russ or Miller could step up and break out as a solid roleplayer. If Miller turns into a 3&D Guy, Russ can come in as a pesky defender and spark plug or Jimmer can become a sniper then we are sitting pretty with a bench mob, but it's not a make or break for the season. If not, I still like our bench with Rivers/Salmons/Anderson/Ajinca. All those guys are solid at their role and Anderson is phenomenal.

    No.
Benches are five man lineups and the rules of basketball are that the entire bench must come in at once, replacing the starters.

We did see that all last year. However, even with that being said nearly every guy on the bench sucks on defense and so you have to mix Asik and Davis in there to try to prevent disaster from happening.

The Pelicans Defense Efficiency last year was HORRIBLE. Who was worse? Utah, Philly, Milwaukee, and we tied with the atrocious Lakers!

You think Asik will fix this? Miller? We will still be bad on defense and we added a group of weak bench players to help us suck more on D. Thanks Dell.

Not all is lost but being a realist. The bench sucks on D and in the West we have to face offensive juggernauts like GSW CKIPPERS OKC TRAILBLAZERS. Defense wins these games. You can't win in a shootout against the Clippers or Portland or GSW. I'm just being honest.

One really positive thing Dell did was add Asik. Our rebounding was very poor compared to other teams.

PLATOON SWAPS ONLY, and we have 3 lines, the starters are line 1, bench guys line 2, and whoever we sign to replaced injured guys line 3.

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

No having a healthy team will help, Jrue is a great defensive player and you will be surprised the affect Asik will have on D.

Well Asik turned the Rockets of two seasons ago from well below average to above-average just by stepping on the court. Yeah, I think that is the assumption.

Y'all are missing the point. You will see when the season starts. I hope I am wrong but my point is definitely not easy to dismiss. The West is brutal. I think we'll barely make the playoffs if the bench players play poor defense.

Asik will without a doubt improve the defense but we have a whole bunch of poor defenders and we're in the west. Having Jrue healthy will help a lot but Gordon and Reke are bad defenders and so is the whole bench except rivers and the irrelevant Miller who can't seem to adjust.

Russ Smith, Patrick Young, Jeff Withey, Darius Miller, Jrue a Holiday, Anthony Davis, Austin Rivers and Omer Asik. That's eight players that are above average defenders on our roster. Asik will make a much bigger impact than you are giving him credit for on our defense as far as rebounding, not fouling and protecting the rim. We will get Jrue Holiday to throw at their point of attack. Tyreke isn't as bad as you are giving him credit for, especially on guards. I honestly think our defense will make a leap.

Evans is weak. Gordon is weak. Take Smith, Young, Whithey, and Miller off your list. They don't count. They've proven nothing!!!!!!
