And even if he could, who do you have at the 4 and 5 that doesn't absolutely kill your spacing when combined with Young? Only answer would be Ryno and AD, but with those 3 out there (which I don't think they ever would be), AD would guard the 3's.
after watching a lot of florida games, i can promise you he has the lateral agility to guard nba 3's...for stretches. he is a 4, but his greatest attributes are athleticism and versatility on defense

I challenge someone to watch this video in it's entirety and not be excited about Patric Young.

Also keep in mind this was pre last season

He would only get the minimum, it's not an issue.

Yeah would be like what 490k? Something like that. Definite non issue unless he means # of roster spots. Even so I'd make room for this guy.

Possibly. But at that point I want the best player winning out. If he is better than our other backup bigs he will has a spot.

I honestly don't see a big issue for him. As long as he shows good defense and rebounds as well as our other bigs (which shouldn't be too hard since our backups aren't amazing in that regard) he will have a spot. He's just so different from our other backups it would take him completely stinking to not get a spot.

And if that's the case I wouldn't want him anyway.

Patric Young on how Pelicans envision him as an NBA player: "They see me as a little Ben Wallace, and I’m perfectly happy playing that role"

But Ben Wallace and he are nothing alike!

Ben Wallace gobbled up rebounds amazingly well and Patric Young is not that good at it.

Obviously, the Pels don't know what they're talking about...

The more quotes and video of this guy I watch/read, the more I like.

Ben Wallace as far as energy, hustle, and never drawing up a play for him. I see that. But production wise, they will be different. Young is not a shot blocker or a capable defensive rebounder.

Sounds more like Chuck Hayes than Ben Wallace but that's nothing to sneeze at either.
I'm still nervous that we now have a roster of Ball dominant guards, centers, and Ryan Anderson.
Dell must not like red bull because he doesn't have any wings.

I like Charles Oakley and Antonio Davis more myself. More attainable guys for his ceiling

That's what we'll use the MLE and BAE on as long as we still have them after the Asik deal.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having either one of those two in a Pat Young.

I've been saying Oakley or one of the Davis Brothers for a while now. A little Reggie Evans as well.

I hope the comparison is Oakley and he develops the nasty/attitude as well. We haven't ever had that since this team relocated. Tyson wasn't as vocal then as he is now.

Oakley was MJ's best friend. Maybe Patric can be Davis' best friend?

And personal trainer. If AD is a future 100 million dollar man, isn't it worth a 4 yr/3 million dollar deal to get him a bodyguard and personal trainer?

    Bodyguard. Heh. I like that.

I said we needed a big guy, but the word I shoulda used was tough guy.

The guy that'll mix it up, not back down. And Young is built like marble statue carved on Krypton.

2 reps away from all time NBA Combine record on the bench press.

Can toughen AD up in practice too. I mean, I can see a scenario where he never steps on the court during an NBA game, but can still be truly valuable for us. Any production on the court is gravy.

What's the record and how much weight?

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

I think AD should start talking to guys like Grover once he gets into his next contract.

I'm a huge Florida fan and loved watching him the past 4 years. He's a maximum effort on every play type of guy. He gets pumped about everything and is always in the game. He's a big crowd pumper and is definitely what Popovich calls "over himself".
